Golems - what's not to love?

Earliest golems are made from local materials and often animated by spirits to be used as servants and guardians. Some culture go crazy for them learning to automate everything with golems like well pumps, water wheels, carts but this usually invites displeasure from the gods. The gods keep the secrets of life for themselves and golem making is a imperfect copy of the means gods created life. Undead often use part of a spirit and remains of a former living body and are less unnatural.

Golems are resistant to many spells and resistant to weapons or non magical attacks

Some golems have limited spell like abilities with uses per day

Some golems become sentient and self aware. This usually turns to despair, anger, unrequited love, insanity, rage and violence. A few things here can make a golem sentient, mad or both.

Nano golems come in swarms usually from bacteria size to rodent size
Collosus golems are titan sized and can fight kaiju or destroy a city or fight a god

I wrote these ages ago then got hung up on statting them - just looked at and decided who cares

Toth (Steve) Half Egyptian Nergal Cultist has taken to wearing a vampires black kilt, blackened armour of noble quality and a huge khopesh. Keen to serve the lord of death and keep the underworld secrets from mankind. Keen for pilgrimage to Cutha.

Sobek (Hanna) Amorite chariot driver and archer whose clan worship lion ancestor. Her ancestors to west had some Egyptian links but have fled from west as Egyptians pulled out. Is good with animals and likes taking responsibility for livestock captured and donkey carts. Father allowing her to practice drive Sumerian battle donkey waggon with a team of four. Loaned a slave to drive other donkey cart and care for animals. Still looking for religion possibly join Ishtar but also meeting Shamen.

Kull Draco (Andrew) a Gutian huge brute kin of the bear totem caries a huge battle axe. Interested in status and respectability, told by priests of Marduk should marry a Babylonian girl and be civilised. Not totally convinced but tempted to by a slave free her and marry her as nobody will marry a savage ugly illiterate Gutian.

Ariana (Andz) Minoan raised daughter was leading crew of Mycenean Pirates, Adad cultist, and a swords woman. Adopted the weather god as was useful at sea or on land and handy for killing monsters and somewhat respectable cult. Very attractive and scandalous for partial nudity (more tolerated in south). Looking for a noble husband with dad's help. Preferably one in the army.

So party climbing the holy mountain when herd some growls and running beasts. All prepared and wolves charged through gap in rocks on trail. Misile fire injured about half and party killed seven and drove off rest. Kull was badly bitten in thigh. Medical attention looked after this.

Still higher and two horrendous Scorpion men, spawn of Tiamat guarding a cave charged. The party were wary of scorpion stings this time since fighting a manticore and all parried them in preference. Kull got a nasty bit and first one fell quickly. Second one lost several legs and tail before being finished. They had short swords and slings on them. In cave found their beds, corpses of barbarians, water jars. Also jars which turned out to be scorpion venom antidote they used so captives did not die outright. In back of cave was a tunnel. Party rested and next morining began long trek into cave. They got impression the tunnel was not actually inside the mountain anymore.

Found a tiled area with table, wooden bed with headrest, kitchen ware. Scribes desk and snake woman idols. All quite artistic. Wary of more monsters a atractive, elegant tall woman greeted them. Se pronounced she was Ugari and related she was kin to plant goddess daughters of Enki, Snake people on Gizzida and the old snake goddesses of the pre flood era. She impressed them mostly but realized she lived off cave snakes and bugs. Offered her a taru bird that sobek kept in cages for food and releasing in dangerous places. She cooked them snake stew and shared party food but they did see her turn her back on them and swallow the bird. They shared beer with her and spoke for many hours. She like kull because he would eat anything she ate even raw. But she slept with Toth and Ariana watched to make sure nothing bad happened to her half brother. After she and the snakw woman groomed each other and became good friends. Having told of the party adventures she said the fact they had seen these things and were here meant the gaze of the gods was on them.

They saught her advice about the cave ahead. One way went to gates of the celestial heaven and the other to the underworld. This was not the cave the sun god Shamash used to travel through the underworld or to heaven but related. Also asked about warning from Enki to not accept gifts from the gate keepers of the gods. Ugari agreed Enki advice was tricky.

If Enki gives you advice it may not always be in your interest. If Shamash advises you it is probably good. If Marduk advises you it is an order. Toth inhaled his incense and went into a trance but got mixed messages from his visions.

So to the path of heaven they set. After an impossibly high climb they came to stairs all set in lapis tiles with scenes of dragons on them. Finaly came to a chamber of palatial art and two guardians at the gate. Aspects of Tammuz as a handsome youth and Gizzida an old man with a lapis jeweled beard. The did not speak but gestured. The seemed friendly and inspected party. Gizzida went through the misty gateway and returned with scented body oil which all but Toth obediently applied. Then they were granted bread and water which Toth also refused. Sobek applied some to her pack goat and it shrink down to a coin sized fetus. She was a bit upset and put it in her pocket.

Then they were admitted. They went up more stairs into a identical chamber with same guardians who offered them to pass. This happened a total of seven times. Finally they came to a great palace which was mostly dark and looked long unused. But on the shining throne sat the celestial god of the upper heavens Anu, formerly supreme god of the universe. He smiled and inspected the mortals as he had not met any since the hero king Etana post the flood era.

They presented him with offerings which vulture headed geni took. They asked about the state of the world and what they could do to fix it. He explained the universe unbalanced and chaos was spreading across the corners four of the world.

The four ancient evils were afoot. Asag the great stone giant who once grought a ghoard of rebel stones from the mountains to wage wars on the flood plain people and Ninurta defeated. The Anzu lion-bird which once stole the tablets of destiny to usurp reality. Tiamat the Dragon of Chaos in the sea stirred again or some remnant of her from when Marduk killed her and dismembered her. And Hanbi a great wind demon and father of the winds who Anu long ago placated him and his sons with titles and purpose in the world. He looked at Toth who had refused his gifts and looked a bit scruffy by comparison and presented him with a meteoric steel Khopesh. All were pleased and thanked the god and left the palace.

Returned to the snake goddess and spent better part of a day with her before exiting. Got down the mountain and met others who were guarding donkey cart who said party missing for 15 days. Those who had the oil got +1 APP (making Ariana superhuman with 22), the brad ggave +1 HP (puting Sobek up a class for location HP) and he water reduced age by 1d4 (making kull look 15 - everyone else older and still looked adult).

Marched back to Mari staying in village on the way. Several recruited handmaidens from friendly Amorite tribe. Drove off bandits and wild dogs before one night camping women heard a pleasnt tune. Ariana and Sobek went to look and Kull and Toth followed suspiciously. On edge of marsh a handsome brown faces youth was waste deep in reeds playing a pipe. The men saw he had horns and thought him ugly but ladies seemed attracted. Toth dragged away Sobek lifting her over her shoulder as she protested.  Kull went to stop Ariana and the angry Satyr threw a rock at him. Kull went into a rage and struck satyr in head with his axe, cutting his scalp and knocking him out.

Back at camp there started what was to be a several week fued about what to do with him. In Mai city found Temples of Tammuz and Geshtianna offered hundreds of shekels in goods for the beast. Ishtar temple offered more. Beast kept threatening to kill men and steal Ariana the fairest. Sobek had sex with him while imprisoned in clan trade house and fell pregnant. She had a diviner tell her it would be a son. Kull kept taunting him with his flute and even smashed it in front of him. Satyr spat on him so he punched it. Visited often to give him a beating. As a wasteland savage he knew these beasts stole women and hated them.

It did tell of how his father lived in mountains with human wife kidnapped long ago and how father had driven him to wasteland at puberty.

The long trek to Babylon they met some hunters and traders and a band of Hurrian bandits. Once home they sold off the loot they had taken from the wicked. Toth wanted to sacrifice the beat man as did Kull. Others wanted to sell. Some suggestion they could pimp him ou to curious rich ladies. Ended up getting a good price from Ishhar temple who wanted him for secret rituals. Sobek demanded a bigger cut as alimony for her child. Others begrudgingly let her have extra.

Kull settled into his new country shack and went to market to buy a wife. Found a deptor selling his daghter and he paid good price and married her. He had learned to read and wear proper clothes and was accepted as a Babylonian citizen. Was keen to join cult of Marduk in a sect specializing in civilizing and fighting savages.

Sobek paid for a nice house to be built from brick and furnishings and nice things for her unborn child. Even put money in temple with will for son he would get only if he behaved properly. Probably a tall order.

Ariana stayed in Daddies palace and was looking for husbands and attending royal functions. Toth was busy with studying the secrets of the underworld.

Next time will plan which of the great evils to hunt.

Carousing pt1 and some other stuff

As Im prepping for new club move im ditching my boxes of notes and booklets and making a folder up with my rules for me and players use. Ive put in about 11 pages of Vornheim. Maps from theives world box set from chaosium and runquest 3 cities book (basically recycling tables from thieves world and probably most inspirational dm book ive ever had - taught me to game sandbox cities from tables. Probably the glorantha hero wars box set for rq3 that showed me you could paint a setting by encounters better than windy paid per word fanboy text). Im going through my blogs and printing up stuff now.

Redbrick book progress (only 2 years behind - thank god i didn't kickstart it or Tenkar would be shaming me).  Will shortly put most important tables on some spreads together and do dungeon record forms. Will do redbrick key revision here too shortly. A few other things and will get proof team onto it.

I might start running roadwar game weekly and start making interlocking road sections from foamcore and folding buildings from card. Stencil on details. Will use for my tsr marvel game for con too. More tables and design rules coming soon. I might do this for the easter con and a kids version with cars vs dinosaurs using d6. Ive got more die cast cars, a harrier and getting some trucks.

Started playing Cthulhu as player and used 1st ed rules while rest using more generous recent rules. I want to live dangerously and be feeble vs horror not a gun wielding psycho who happens to meet monsters.

Im supposed to be writing two work art things and doing stuff for staff exhibit.

So as for my DnD game which has some regulars again the thing i have most used was carousing and between adventure tables going about a few years back. So I'm gonna reinvent the wheel and do several d100 tables to cover in between adventures and players who are away. Also I have made for covering certain classes plus a wilderness one for hippies, druids, barbarians etc.

Carousing pt5 Rambling in the Wild

Not everyone likes to party in the city, read musty old books or prey, some hit the rural trails and look for recreation in the wilds. Many character classes would rather spend time in the bush than the city and this is for them.

I have considered a maritime version of this also. I considered a table for people or monsters living in dungeon communities. Any other tables for downtime recommendations I will consider.

JD asked last post how I use these tables - sometimes it is just to imply hero had a adventure in between game - especially if time passes or player misses a game - i might play as a solo for each player like Pendragon games have a solo phase if it would take a few rolls or all could be resolved in similar time.

I will be 3 game logs behind now doh. Considering revising my religions to as im using babylonian gods in a game i might customise my dnd setting gods more. Using Babylonian gods was always a shorthand.

Road War Journal: Deathrace Part 2

So the team confronting a police roadblock simply took an alternate route.
Two more advanced cars had beaten them already. The japanese advanced racer with the huge rocket tube came in first with a few kills. The tailing car had racked up best score by hanging back and targeting schools and oldfolks homes.

So when team almost near goldcoast were surprised by aproach of a school bus (a new toy model). It was being driven by 11 death race fan gang members and 20 hostage teens were on board.

The team managed to destroy the bus tires and wheels from a distance and it had begun spinning out of control. The mutie racer with ram plates hit it in front as it spun and thr bus flipped though the air tumbling 360 degrees and landing on what was left of its wheels while the ninja biker girl of course drove under the flying bus. Everyone else sent of road to avoid the flying death machine.

When bus crashed many of the team kept racing but Karumi on her bike rode up to the now open bus door and emptied her silent machine pistol killing the leader and making his seconds take cover. She drew her vibro monoblade katana and began scything through the mostly stunned gang. The mutie had done a 180 degree turn and eventually got enough forward momentum to pull up and fire his battered sawn off. One shell jammed damned his wasteland grimed car and so he ran inside to see if he could punch any before Karumi killed them all. The Sheriff pulled up and aimed his magnum finishing a few off and within seconds the gang were all dead. They were angry death race fans. The same police convoy from before arrived actually they had been called away from roadblock to rescue the school bus so after they came across most of team performing first aid on injured kids. So after kids safe cops escorted them to the outskirts of the Goldcoast. They crossed finishing line after.

So one of the new team members (a cyborg in a green muscle car) had got third place for speed but low pedestrian kills to not rate (got a few thousand cash bonus). Mutie got third highest score in race for most kills including an accidental old person when trying to save old folks home. The Sherrif was barred for life from death racking and got booed by fans who would hate him forever for ruining the race by destroying most of the contestants.

The cyborgs had dropped out of the race to loot ruined vehicles and filled a semitrailer a truck and a van with parts to sell. Mutie and the the.

As they team caught up and celebrated a Gentech exec arrived to offer them all race expenses (ammo and repairs) and pay them well if they spied on a compound of the Brethren of Joseph in the northern territory. The team accepted and continued to party and spent next few days prepping and shopping.
So on the road with a few old team mates including a thief biker girls and a trucker who had been absent a while. Across the mountains the team drove by night. Mostly quiet but did see some inhabited ruins. A bunch of weird bushes and corpses on the road ahead someone identified as triffids so everyone went off road to avoid. Some farms had been left untended during the plagues of the early 90s and many were wild but the government kept it quiet.

Saw a ruin with a crowd of homeless and decided to visit. Starving homeless farmers told how a gang had driven them away so party thought would check it out. Spied on camp and saw only a few gang vehicles a folding razor wire fence and a mine field. Also saw gang members were bandaged and many coughing up blood. Records showed the gang were known as plague carriers. All thoughts of fighting them stopped and the party returned to farmers camp. Gave them some food and supplies. While gathering plant matter for trucks biofuel plant a mutant killer koala or drop bear leaped at the the truck driver but Sheriff and others shot it. Trucker threw bloody mess into the biofuel plant and kept on working.

Reached the desert and mostly empty but did see in distance a fortress by the road. Spied on with scouts and saw had flag indicating a militia group. Contacted them by radio and found they required doctors. While in compound after a tense entry the thief girl robbed the leaders  stash of gold. Went on their way with offer of welcome return. Most had no idea of theft.

Finally over the border into the Northern Territory and ahead saw convoy of all blue christian militia. A truck, several 4x4 offroaders, a pursuit muclecar and some bikes. At thought they thought their mission was involved but realised the religious gang were own brand of crazy who disliked Josephites. Radioed the team and the militia demanded the party needed to be inspected for muties, cultists, cyborgs and perverts if they wanted to pass. While team was willing to try and bullshit the new cybork kid in his green musclecar floored it and opened fire. Several party members fired rockets and grenaides including a white phosphorous round.

Most of the bikes were down and got rammed of the road. One biker went through the musclecar window and the driver got a few scratches from chunks of bone and high velocity gristle. Most of the ammo spent on the militia truck did very little. Wheels made better targets. As themusclecar pushed through the militia he dropped caltrops and smoke and forced cars off road. Mutie sis swiped truck and a pasenger fell out into his back rollcage but fell off seconds later when he rammed another car. As both car groups passed only the blue truck battered made it through. Another car on fire, another had crew killed by lucky burst. The new kids musclecar had a corner and machinegun destroyed.

Next time the spy mission begins....

I have become a car collecting addict. Have over a hundred now. 25% donations rest i have been stalking at sales. I just got lots of vans and light trucks and off road buggies. Have built some basic roads that interlock from foamcore and painted them grey for now. A few stencils will finish them off. Have paper templates for curves so will make them next - need buildings to use for marvel also, but scale not important as much in that game.

When my car rules complete will start posting car designs based on matchbox and hotwheels cars. Hotwheels more cool, matchbox more techie. Some hotwheels are weird scifi monster vehicles. I might wait a season before i get more. Apparently hottest toy in indonesia and i can tell they are selling well. Cheap knock offs don't have originality. Have a predator drone and a harrier might get a  A-10. These aircraft should scare party shitless. Some of vehicles slightly too good - I goofed on the trucks early on with stats. I need to rethink armour and effects on vehicles too.

The club has moved out of my building. My dnd game is in crisis again despite fun ive had but i need at least 3 regulars. With a bit less gaming im going to have more time write, more room to paint (i sold $500 other day) and i might get back into stand up as someone offered to coach me. Might get new players in new venue or get a new day sorted so i hope i can get my dnd game afloat again. My taste is a bit too obscure. Club has three levels and i hope to see next few days.

More road murder stuff soon.

BRP Babylon: Hunting Cults of the 4 Evils

Party returned from mount Mushu to Babylon where some met the gods and those who had missed out when the cave entry had temporarily vanished.

Now aware there were four great evils afoot heroes tried to plan how too battle.

They tried their means of divination, tried to study magic and settled into their new relationships. Kull tried to join Marduk but failed but has gained some help from his new in laws who see barbarian as means to restore status. Ariana had help from Daddy to help her meet a husband. They decided an Assyrian would help family interests to the north andd trade into Hittite lands. She had choice of rich older merchant or noble warrior her own age. She chose later and he has been keen to follow her.

To the North Hanbi king of the wind demons was stirring. He was displeased with his office and wanted more. To the mountains of the west Asag the great stone giant and his Gutian cultists were gathering force in the Zagaros mountains. To the south Tiamat was stirring in the sea and to the west the Anzu bird was stirring.

They sought priests to aid them in interpreting their divination attempts. At one stage there were strong signs that the Hittite lands in the mountains might be source of Hanbi or possibly the Hurrian or Mittani lands. Also asked the exorcists of Pazzuzu in the doctors district how their demon lord felt about his father Hanbi. Apparently Pazzuzu not involved in scheme and other demons jealous Pazzuzu receiving status and reverence and for terrifying other demons.

Pek asking about heard that many of the cultists of Anzu bird were among western barbarians, especially in hills to west of Ur. As his god had defeated Asag and Anzu his cult were very helpful and his gift of manticore and lion pelts impressed them. Nobody else had checked the possibility of persecuting the cults locally he found in Babylon depictions of Anzu in scribe district and being illiterate told others of his discoveries. As cultists could be killed easier than gods this tactic seemed attractive and party went to visit scribe. Parked chariot and barbarians of party outside while the egghead literates went inside. Scribe shop had supplies and services typical and some ancient tablets on display. One depicted the Anzu bird and saw several version of his forms. The lion bird (a griffin like monster), a half man half bird thing and a great eagle with a lion head. Iltani harassed him to buy it but he denied and said they had to leave. Toth got a cramp and his leg was paralysed. Outside some men in scribe kilts with shaven heads a rods came out and seemed to spot party barbarians in the street instantly. They were mind linked and one had detect enemy but party had no idea. Iltani alo got a sudden stif leg and then fight was on.

Toth ran to chariot crying "witch witch!"

Sobek could not see the problem and as was a street full of healers they found more.
Inside Pek and Iltani fought the shopkeeper and the scribes maiming them easily while one older man escaped. They looked at the tablets to see they were books of sorcery. Found a cylinder seal of agate that could print tablets with a contact Anzu spell. Iltani had called for Ishtar temple for help but Priests of Mark assumed authority and questioned everyone. The Leader wore a dragon costume with a face inside the dragon mouth. He set a date for a trial.  Ishtar priestess would attend to defend party but evidence and testimony of others was strong. If case difficult to resolve the sorcerers would be thrown into the river but the trial found them guilty and priests of Girra (or Nusku or Agni the fire god) came and burned the survivors of the fight.

So armed with the realisation cultists were everywhere they decided to head to Ur to kill cultists. Packed bags and headed with donkey cart south through several cities they had never seen before on a different route. Bandits attacks and were taken as slaves to UR. Party have become good hunters and now with plenty of minor spells the average youths and poor barbarians have little hope. Every trip they now feed themselves and collect skins as they go.

Arrived in Uruk and Iltani took party to her sisters home to rest a few days.

Upcoming and outgoing stuff from me...

Shortly might be last exile log post for a bit my ailing DnD game for a bit . Lost a regular and its been a struggle keeping game afloat. I will try a different night perhaps and new club location might help (thou i have not been and ive axed 2 of my games now leaving me with sunday). Ive had people say i shouldn't consolidate to just 2 games on sunday as ppl claim they would like to play more games but i have not seen signs of these mythical gamers wanting to play other times. Club under my floor of building was great while i was sick to keep up social life but i think my games are not mainstream or popular sells like big name lines of product. My BRP stuff doing fine. My friends i game with in december when i return to Adelaide for xmas wanna play my dnd setting which is nice.

As my health improved to normal im really enjoying being able to work and would like to get back to my 70 hours a week of mixed casual work and my art business and projects including writing. Offered by a professional comic who kindly asks to borrow my personal anecdotes for his routine to train me back up. As im feeling well id like to perform again. Jot a dj job for caberet too. Sold $750 worth of art this week. Feeling well enough to date again but need some new social activities for opportunities. Having 2-5 drinks a week again.

I have two weeks of full time+ work and 3 con games to prep so sunday gaming fine for me for a bit. Then have SYD con and will have a go at getting games up after that. Something to alternate with my deathrace game sundays might be good other than that will wait and see. Shame as i enjoy dnd game and like writing for it. Have more road sections and some folding buildings and tokens for marvel game at con to ready. Need to stencil up stuff on roads too. Have glorantha books and 5 boxes of armies coming by post. Will order BRP Rome and Metamorphosis alpha hardbacks shortly.

Reading new DnD book is good in many ways but i find too many choices and complexities also. I just find myself a bit overwhelmed by mechanical options. Hideous halflings creep me out - i can barley look at them. I have no problems with real ppl under 4 foot 4 or other depictions of them. The design is best ever. The art pretty good and best colour version of the game. Too many terms with no explanation for new gamers is a big flaw. Early 80s basic set still needed.

Id still like to run a sf game sometime but something with committed players. Roadwar and marvel worked fine for drop ins. Rome and Rus will be next years historic brp/cthulhu/rq games.

Started on folder with my fave tables for sandboxing for new club to stop me carrying stuff and relying on net so had a big look back on old posts. While digging through my past blogs found i had done 2 tables on rival parties in dungeon tables so that was a hoot. Treasure and pice section of 1st ed adnd will be used too. Found my corruption fx for several tables broken. No no3 on about three tables.

Next few posts here:

More carousing tables
decided this older table for shore leave will be included in series as no6
d100 Living in a dungeon table no7
d100 Exploring the under land will be no 8
will do extra tables for 4 core classes too as d100 tables will repeat faster than you think if used every session. I might knock out a freebie of my city life tables on next blog milestone.

revised redbrick key tables with a d10 for every one of basic room types

dungeon forms - dungeon design, level design and room design - to facilitate random table use

some new encounters for mid and high level and higher level treasures

summaries on most important tables for dungeon stuff on a few sheets for inside my dm screen

Another attempt on mutation tables which i might do by level to fit into spells for several of my games.

Requests are always fun and welcome...

Exile Log: Return to Hobgoblin Halls

Last Exile Log? Well for a bit anyhow. Ive scrapped involvement in four games for moment. I should try g+ hangouts but im a bit of a Luddite.

Was a productive game with half level completed.

Party arrived at gates to find a boss monster and his cohorts were guarding the front door and it was locked. Tried to BS way in by talking monster languages and claiming to have important loot. Door was 4 inch thick reinforced oak but stupid monsters eventually opened (wont happen again). Inside were a few hobgoblins (most hadnt arived for duty yet and a catfish man wizard and his normal fishmen warriors. Was a bit of a slog and the catfish man cast a stinking cloud which took out the party elite archer whilre fishmen held line just out side of stinking cloud. Rankss of sheild and hooked swords with rear fishmen throwing javelins. Eventually the catfish wizard turned invisible and fled and his ranks of men folded.

Amazingly more reinforcements didnt come. So as they had done a quater of dungeon they chose the processional path down the middle planning on hitting the hobgoblin shrine. Up ahead saw a odd sight. A wall was half built with a brick golem taking bricks from his body to build the wall. With hime were hobgoblin guards. Party charged and golem threw bricks at them till melee. As many heroes couldn't touch golem they ran through and killed hobgoblins instead. All impressed by golem and wished they had one. Stole some of bricks from body so couldn't be rebuilt (hopefully).

Came to great junction. One way was a corridoor full of unseen niches to second level up. Right was the kobold quarters and to right were hobgoblins massing for a fight from all over temple. Took position to make hobgoblins charge into party and managed to kill almost 30 before hobgoblins started reconsidering strategy. Shamans enhanced several troops to elite and they were cut down. Monsters all blessed but didnt help. Surrounded with fog and pulled back then cast hold on deadlies party members paralyzing the archer. His orc wife dragged him back but the hobgoblins broke down and fled. Party hurt but healed up and moved in. Went into shrine full of lesser shamen and began to fight with hold persons lobbed at them. At they began to overcome them fiends in their smoky dark shrine more hobgoblins came from rear with a chained troll with handlers. Party shot handlers and rest of hobgoblins fled. Troll killed a few and bothered the party a bit before they killed it.

Hunted down survivors of temple complex and know monsters in above level aware. Grabbed mountains of treasure and some lot relics of good. The angle girl didn't mind the curses on the good relics as she already gave to charity and the other effects. She had a holy skull which added to her armour and a sentient sword. Rest happy with donkey cart in loose change, gems and potions. Decided to stay inside (finally) as concern over inhabitants increasing door defences. Instead plan to visit kobolds and try to recruit them as they did to the teen kobold graffiti gang they caught last time who now lived in party dungeon with wages and own rooms.

Beyond kobolds are haunted caves and beyond them more holy relics....

Upstairs is the goblin housing level with hobgoblin masters presence also...

Player got a job and club moving and me working slowed me down a bit. Hopefully new digs will get more members as near Sydney's hipster/culture suburb. Really impressive cavernous space like a late 70s YMCA. Lotsa cool industrial bins to loot - found one full of review cd's. I used to work in area so i know bins full of foam core. Sadly a I will be walking through graffiti heartland and a huge outdoor graff gallery I am being very tempted all the time to paint for free in unwanted manner. Will post some pix.

Im finalizing my car design rules and getting a few extra things for my car collection for roadwar game. Got a tank. Getting a few dinosaurs now for when near those abandoned Jurassic Parks. Playing some racing games which is a bit inspiring. If hitting a tree stump at 100 mph and flying through windscreen inspiring.

BRP Babylon: To Hunt the Anzu Bird Cult near Ur

On way to Ur visited Temple of Ninurta in Lagash who gave them advice on monster hunting and a written reference. Party scribe has an impressive list now of such documents.

So the team arrived at Ur to witness a procession of gods, visit temples for divination and meet officers who could help them with menace of the Anzu Bird cult. With temple references got tl speak to leader of chariot corp who offered to drive them close to hills in battle donkey wagons and let party use one as barbarian driver was so skilled.

Out on plain on edge of foot hills found a tribe of nomads. Spoke to them and they were wary as men folk away. Nergal cultist convinced them he hated current order and wished to serve Anzu as he had seen shield and other bird cult art.

Told him about big ritual for tribal folk of nomads and barbarians and shamans leading the great ceremony to call Anzu.

Party left then by night crept into hills and saw massive camp and thousands of torches. Sneaked up in disguise and saw rituals. Party barbarians even managed to get some spells from shamans.

Returned to city to warn weekly gatherings growing and preparing for war. Met temples and city officers and taken by chariot again to foothills to visit holy site. Arrived at sacred hill with petroglyphs on rocks an huge symbols of Anzu in the sand. Found a tunnel and crawled in and found stinking dirty nest. Creepy naked pink birdmen attacked and several killed. Fled with several prisoners monster men to temple of Nana (Sin) the moon god. Horrified priests told king and army prepared. Party got to meet king who was grateful for aid and heroes joined him in the battle command lines.
Army met gathering horde day before ritual but without chariots in hills. 1000 spearmen in phalanxes, 500 archers, 500 axemen and 3000 farmer auxiliaries with javelins and slings defeated the irregular but savage barbarians who lacked discipline and tactics. Mostly lost auxiliaries but routed enemies. Dug up holy hill, killed birdmen and prisoners and saw vultures fly off with severed human heads

King gave party gifts and letter of support. Party marched home to Babylon keen to hunt more of the minions of evil.

So positioned party to watch the compound of the Josephite cult at bequest of Gentech. Saw huge village of 500 people with gender and children segregated barracks, ag polydomes, a automated factory, mess halls, garage and church.

Made plans for the christian mutie to infiltrate as he knew their bible well. He drove off and got admitted with impressive speech.

Everyone else in camp when saw a elder in a offroad segway come across plain. Bike went out with Karumi and the new kid. She tried her ninja mind reading tricks no success. He agreed to visit camp and they took him there and he offered them work and food. He needed help to fight satanic biker gangs in area. Team entered compound. Josephites liked sheriff in party best and religious mutie. Cyborgs wary of. Offered new kid a wife if he joined and he was keen to become initiate and be baptised. Spoke to other newcommers and checked if under duress. Most happy to be here and saved by cult but a few wary of no way to leave.

Next day cult asked if party would eliminate a biker gang, the Scarlet scalpers. Mutie offered for free and karumi, new kid, sheriff and a crazy german backpack girl in her battle combivan all offered to go to for repairs, ammo fuel and cash. Tried to get into sheriffs bitter secrets but failed.

After lunch team set off to old mining shacks and waited to dark. Warned to spare petrol pump and just kill gang. So as got late and gang drunk team charged. Gang very slow to react and Karumi the ninja girl fired a rocket accidentally igniting petrol pumps. Mutie charged ahead in his ram buggy, knocked over multiple shacks killing inhabitants. Sheriff from behind machine gunned stirring gang members and the crazy backpacker drove into flames, spun out of control and damaged several shacks. Team drove around shacks picking off and running down bikes and bikers on foot. Backpacker girl saw a globe of flying fire follow her and it set rear of her van on fire. Karumi saw it too and sheriff and realized it as unnatural. As combivan stopped driver lept out and went to scoop up sand with her hat to throw on fire. The fire being was inside torching interior. New kid managed to hit combi and almost hit mutie in confusion. Sherrif drove up and grabbed fire extinguisher as only team member with one. Mutie arrived on scene and grabbed a 30 litre water tank in car. Mutie and backpacker put out fire but then the fire being poured out angrily. Sheriff hosed it down killing it.

Karumi chsed last few bikers down and killed them.

Watched town burn and took prisoners. Looted some bikes and mutie scalped wounded gang members to decorate his car ram plate. Prisoners told how josephites threatened them to join or die. Mentioned another gang in nearby town vanished.

So by lunch found town, a crossroad with pub, police station, garage and church. Huge pits had swallowed some buildings and a huge crack in ground had split town. Karumi sensed oddness and looked about sensing something underground of a psychic nature. Sherrif looked through police building, formerly used by gang and found no bodies or clues.

So Karumi, Mutie and new kid went down a pit. Followed tunnel complex and found slime deposits. Karumi sensed others were under influence of force and followed them. A huge hideous Cthonian land squid beast was waiting in it's nest hungrily drawing human in. Mutie flipped and began breathing flame sizzling beings skin. New kid emptied his assault rifle and and Karumi slashed it with her vibro monoblade katana. Kept it up till being dead but new kid crushed into nothing under the massive beast. She filmed it and cut off a tentacle for a specimen for her corporate masters. Found 4 stone calling mentally for help. She sensed other beings responding. On surface she called company and they said hide eggs in cult compound but one then flee to Sydney without stopping if possible.

In compound party got repairs and ammo and cash and hid eggs one in septic tank died with a fizz. Two others fine and party went top speed back home. On way saved old triffid farmer being chased by plants and he offered then to visit his farm if they ever need a get away. Slaughtered several gangs easily. In Sydney Gntech lab guys flew egg to oil rig lab. Saw footage of cthonians arising under Josephite town killing and enthralling people until the filming drone fired 6 hellfire missiles laying men and monsters to ash.

All pleased and rested a few days in gentech labs.

Got a hundred lil train scale people to run over with toy cars which added lots of fun. I have got some tanks, fighters and other interesting trucks. Will get a set at club set up and one for me. Making roads all week after work for con game. DnD this tuesday then 3 days gm-ing this weekend.

Ariana had chosen to marry a important Assyrian Noble who was keen to support families glorious war against the four great evils. All had used important letters and wealth rto improve status and impress religious officials and shaman to get more spells. So followed the Tigris to Assur with a donkey battle wagon and a normal donkey cart. Faced more desperate youths and Gutian bandits without fear and sold captives as thrall labourers. One evening when almost in Asur a great worm of Tiamat came from the night's darkness and attacked. The heroes killed it then bickered over the creatures skin. Made some pieces of armour including some full suits. Kull Draco now a initiate of marduk and official civilized was pleased. At Assur Ariana was married and her family and friends gave her many gifts including gold arm bands and silver. After a brief stay in an Assyrian palace and spending time with her somewhat bloodthirsty father in law sge was shown maps of her new family trade routes to Hittite lands, Hurrian mountains in Syria and Ururatu to the north.

Planed a route intending to winter in the heartland of the Hittites. Possibly return via medeteranean and even Egypt.

I got my armies finally - 200 Assyrian and Sumerian troops 1/72nd scale with 7 chariots. Con made game have a break for weekend so a few quick game logs, con report and business as usual here.

Exile Log: In the court of the Kobold King

Acula the Archer and Nahme the Angel remained in the Dungeon while their bard returned to city with treasure. Explored sacked temple and found long stone passage that went miles and came to sea cliff where they met a young octopus lad. He was a pale deep sea Tako and quite keen to join a party of greedy adventurers.

So they rested a night then healed and returned to the Hobgoblin Halls. Headed to the kobold area and went past the death corridor that all dungeon monsters feared. Heard skittering kobolds so got a party orc flunky to offer kobold king gifts and a yellow hat wearing envoy came to speak for the king. Invited to court to speak of fighing the hobgoblin overlords and tried to talk kobolds into coming to the parties dungeon and be paid wages and not get beatings from chaotic bullies. Huge fat kobold king (5 foot tall!) was made jolly at party spunk and ordered a feast. Jellied cave rats were served and Acula and the warrior orc women tucked in. Kobold king was going to send the yellow hatted envoy and one of his warrior sons to return with party to meet kobolds undr the party influence. Acula asked if king had any daughters as he wanted more wives. King paraded his two dozen daughters and Acula paid bride price of 100gp for the ugliest ones and king declared they were married. Acula's orc wife had a face palm moment but thought kobolds had uses. The smart one was a tanner and the dumb ugly (by kobold standards even) and clumsy one was good at grinding stuff all day.

Inquired about the caves of terror and the  lost holy relics beyond. Kobolds had own door unused for 90 years with silver coins beaten into door to ward off undead. Through the door into the cave crypt complex guarded by holy folk now wights from long ago when dungeon was a relic vault. Found toe small tombs and killed wight in each. In a gant main cave saw black shiny moving thing in dark so aprached pit of black water. Undead screams sounded and 12 wights from varied directions came. Party lobbed spells and silver arrows and silver javelins while backing up. Killed many but got into close melee. Cleric vassal of Nahme was drained a level so over all party did well.

Found some silver weapons party keen to allocate, Found entry to reliquary and acula was caught in fire trap. Through several more and discovered relics. Had a fight over loot an Acula wanted loot and healing. Nahme kept going on about his need to promise o go to more church services. He threatened to loot relics and wak and Nahme dared him knowing the relics would corrupt him with goodness and charity and law. Found a bell (rings if attackers come - party scoffed at utility), a gem and a kneecap (cast protection from evil once a day) in gold jeweled boxes.

Returned to kobolds collected kobold brides and envoys and left dungeon to return relics to cult.

Sydcon games so far.... Marvel

So my little city block ended up about 4 times as big as normal battlemap. Lots of matchbox and hotwheels cars, packs of street signs, my foamcore roads for my roadwar game, buildings that can quickly pack flat, some templates. Worked very well and will repeat. Next will stencil detail on roads and buildings. Could make double size next con. Will get more pix yet. Hero clix collection from club nice too. Have car scale bikes in use. Will get some car scale people standing on card. I got some truly awesome vehichles which im saving to spring on players. Dinosaurs are next. I need to make some shoggoths and get some mythos monsters next. Mars attacks game at con very tempting and the ruined walls sets look handy.

Marvel scale is a bit more abstract than most games i play. I will double ground inch movement rate next time as some players never got near Beyonder. Will open to all players and get assistant GM and a time track record too. More laminated universal tables and printed roster books too.

Will do Fall of the Mutants next time. I could Imagine doing Civil war, Atlantis Attacks, Evolutionary War and manu other events. Letting people play villains worked well and I made up cards with motivations to help give heroes excuse to fight. Secret Wars 2 Issue one was one of my first mainstream marvel comics (I only got Moonknight and New Mutants before that). So to recreate it was lots of fun.

Left cards for good, right for evil. 2 booked in turned to 8 and second game had 7 players as two people from first game played again. Basically was a battle royale in L.A.  -

I gave each team or character motivation/mission cards to help promote fights between heroes and villains who might otherwise cooperate. I allowed teams to share motivations.

Basicly I planned first phaze deal with Thundersword, a jerk given powers by beyonder while he invisibly follow noblest hero about.

Phase two was to start when Thundersword down and swarms of cops moved into help which for heroes is really a bigger problem. This phaze weird sensory powers could sense Beyonders location.

Phase three the beyonder in human form starts to mess with heroes souls and hearts and minds. He will initially mimic most moralistic hero then get a silver boney M type jumpsuit and a terrible 80s mullet-afro. To defeat him you must trigger a existential crisis in him for three rounds.

First team had Cap, Spiderman, Magik, Hulk, Thor, Venom (replaced by Carnage when KO), Ghost Rider and Magneto

Were a powerful bunch with hulk trashing a building a tank and a school bus while claiming Hulk power to not hurt anybody instinctively which I allowed (school kids all harmlessly fell out when he picked it up. Spidey and Venom got fighting and webbed together a bit till he escaped. Carnage came on scene and tried to kill Venom and Spidey. Ghost rider got seperated into Zatharoz and Johnny Blaze and Magic managed to take spiderman to Limbo. After spidey got out he punched Magik and she got in a fight with Ghostrider turning her into the Demonchild who tried to open Limbo and start Inferno but she got taken down. Meanwhile the Beyonder brought in Juggernaut to fight hulk which of course made him madder. Cap did a fine job of protecting civilian and cops and Magneto and Thor faught then teamed up to blast Beyonder who ignored it. When a Marine Harrier jet came on scene Carnage attacked it trying to crash it into the public but Thor Caught It and took Carnage to Asgard to finish him off. Magneto lifted Cap to the roof the Beyonder was observing havoc from and Cap managed to debate him into leaving.

Second session had less powerhouses with Wolvesbane, Iron man, Punisher, Ultron V, Cyclops, Maria Hill (with 6 sheild grunts) and Nightcrawler. The X team worked together but Wolvesbane kept asking beyonder to cure her mutations and whining. Cyclops and the Punisher got into a sniper fight while wolves bane and Nightcrawler kept running in and out of fights as they couldn't really hurt Thundersword. Punisher got into van and brought in heave weapons. He was actually under Ultrons control. Iron Man was trying to befriend Beyonder but eventually went after Ultron who wasted action trying to mind control Maria when he could have tried to Drain Iron Man's suit. So Iron man trashed him with power surge instead. Then Army shot Ultron with anti tank rockets and a fighter hit him with hellfire missiles. Ultron's influence was gone so free Punisher got into a cop uniform and fled into sewer unsure why he was here now. He told colps on radio with fake orders Cyclops was enemy no 1. Maria stole his van and sheild commandeered all the National Guard. They did chase Cyclops and Night crawler managed to disarm a tank while Cyclops gorily injured Beyonder's body making cops think Cyclops really was bad. Professor X through Cyclops tried to persuade Beyonder to leave while Wolvesbane begged him to cure her. Professer x had to convince Beyonder to not remove all powers of unhappy mutants after he considred  granting Wolvesbanes wishes

I gave instant Karma awards for dialogue and this worked well and was good to reward characters for not fighting but posing and arguing. Will use this again. Everyone roleplayed characters well and would bring up heroes personal grievances which was great. So will run again and will try to get some youngins in next time for even bigger battle. Will up move rate to 2 inches a area next time.

Gammaworld didn't run had one taker for 2 sessions.

Metamorphosis Alpha Had 2 Sessions.

I Played Spittin Iron, my friends wild west game where I played my gorrila cowboy.

So marvel thing was awesome and will grow to my regular con game.

Gammaworld got 1 booking and i wont try again but some interest in me running a club session. I ran a game at Urchin books for about a year which was pretty good but unlikely to do again sadly. Lots of my stuff I have done for it can be used with my Psychon setting which I am more likely to use.

Metamorphosis Alpha got 2 out of three full but I did get two players walk which is annoying a a con game.

I played my friend Herbies game Spitting Iron a western and got to play My 6 gun gorrila character and got a little girl who lives in my backpack and tells people i am not a horrible monster. I also wear a dress and bake cookies and make pancakes to make friends which sometimes works. Slowly developed skills to appear comical so people dont kill and skin me. A simple fast pulpy game Herbie plans to release with minatures and other pulp genre expansions with minis. Tiny character sheets use poker chips for hit points and action points and gun sheets use a dice to record ammo. My gorrila, a injun woman and a lost viking got to exterminate a gang unsing zombies. I had injun lady hold my arteries closed while i shot last zombies. Big fun.

I played the Relic game - a 40k based version of talisman with artist and nice guy Jez who also ran Deathfrostdoom and had a proof copy i got to look at and some of his other products and well priced art. I will have to chase up where he got his post cards printed and catch up with him again. Might try to drag him to a zine fair. Discussed his idea for TPK magazine full of tips to kill whole parties.

Two games of Metamorphosis Alpha went ok.

First team awok in med bay, freshly decantered clones and were offered a dose of GST genetic stabilization treatment or a contaminated treatment. Science officer mad a risk and became a Eloi. +3 CHA and smelled sweet with loveley hair. Engineer made weapons for everyone and made spy holes in every door after first locker they opened full of ghouls. Battled a mutant bear and found dead copies of themselves. Searched science labs and traded with morlocks who wanted to buy or rent the Eloi science officer and traded with a humanoid mutant bunny. Found transit tubes and headed for command section. Found numerous levels and finaly made it to command where two players told they couldnt enter as contaminated by necrovirus and mutants. Scientist angered went for android with a spear and got vaporized. Engineed relocated to community in depths of ship while others got to be trouble shooters in command section for AI.

Second team had more armed characters with combat professions and prompty argued lots. Millitary guy took contaminated treatment and turned int a bear hybrid. Battled some gun bunnies, lots of undead and mutants. Gun bunnies had plastic m16 guns fabricated by printers which party used. A regiment of crazed clone trooper vets with mutant ear neclaces tried to bring them to base but they talked way out and managed to get enough space suits and rocket bikes to travel from a launch tube 27 stories to surface. Got to command and androids sent to scout nearby domes after healing and rest. One full of undead and had to fight  huge muscular undead horrors and bear arm amputated. He got a cyborg limb and next dome was a ruined city with zombies, mutants and mutant humanoids battling in ruins. Final dome full of telepathic eloi and the steward in the party joined them and became one with hive mind. Rest remained as trouble shooters for command and got to be replicated by AI.

I think for a long term game you would need some settlements, community an rewards of status to make setting work. Adding undead to ships woe worked fine.

Felt a little quieter this con but a good chance to promote our new club location and met more people. Next time easter con will roadwar game, marvel and hopefully get involved in kids program. My skill in mocking up anything in cardboard fast is getting better. Though when this con repeated i might do a day at newcastle zine fair. Con managers also stated they want more people to run popular games so I will add cthulhu to description of my car combat game.

80% of con tried DnD5 it seems but i heard lots complain about adventure. Saw monster manual which looks good and Die with honour a 15 year dungeon crawl with over 30 players run at two clubs and every session time in both cons will go 5th ed soon. So I will get Players and Monster book and play but I dont think I will run it in any hurry.

Still wondering If I will add new regions to my DnD setting or develop a new more horrible setting. Possibly huge underland region or time travel in current setting a option.

My DnD game puttering along with two regulars and looking for more

Roadwar2000 BRP/Cthulhu/Dark future every fortnight
Babylon BRP weekly

Game I saw most tempted by was Mars Attacks and liked ruins expansion that looked super handy

After a few days rest will resume normal service and get onto more tables and stuff

My game continues to degenerate into domesticity, redecorating murder holes into homely havens and married life. Acula the archer, Nahme the angel and their new plucky young octopus friend left the hobgoblin halls and returned to the city to sell holy relics they rescued. Offered by church cash or more value in healing so took a mix and kept a few items. Nahme kept the orb of friendship, the saint skull that offered protection and a saints heart that added to her hit points.

Trained up and enjoyed wealth for a bit. Nahme went to tax office, paid her due and told taxman rest of party probably over soon with same amount. Acula tried to bullshit taxman and was offered a fine or a job. Took later and taken to dungeons of secret police who know of his lies and waiting to recruit him as an informant. Said would send him jobs later.

Nahme got to meet bishop who held a celebration in her honour as a relic finder.  Got permission to build a shrine in the village of mazewood. Went to village and set about building a small manour for the shrine. Hoped to establish her own order of the sun god. Gave cash to village and was nominated mayor. Village getting some walls and a sheriff hut.

The octopus lad found a suit of chainmail made for his kind in market at a good price and went to Mazewood and explored the village well then built a grotto home there. Found a flooded cave, two half flooded and a dry cave and got a magic lantern with share of loot.

Acula put his new kobold wives in the village dungeon with the kobold clan and dreamed of being a kobold king. Went to city house and wife to visit his kids and pet baby owlbear then went to deeds office to buy a tower to get his dreams of becoming landed aristocracy moving. Deed office full of unclaimed properties cheap near the ghost woods. Choice between a assasins tower, a achemist tower and a golden tower. Got the cheap assassin tower and gathered party to help clear.

Thomas the cleric friend of Nahme was willing to take the bell that warned of attack and stay in the Mazewood dungeon and erect a shrine. He didnt mind the bell master would receive advice from the spirit of the bell. Rest of party keen to ditch all intelligent items that give advice on being good.

Turned up at tower. Sixty feet tall with four floors and a shingled roof. Surrounded by a 20 foot thorn hedge with a nice garden. Chunks of older ruins were buried every where. His orc wife flexed her mighty biceps and broke the lock on the gate. Inside was a nice garden, well groomed with a fountain, a stable, a stone bench, a vege garden and henbane patch and a gazebo.

Knocked on door to see if squatters on his land and 8 mid lv thugs attacked which kept party busy. nahme flew up to shoot them and saw a leader inside and began shooting him and he threw poison daggers back. Her new items and ability to have protection from evil helped. Alucard's side of fight won firs and another wave of low level thugs game at them. He broke through int back kitchen door and they beat up four young recruits. Nahme defeated the leader after she flew inside. All assassin dead and found barracks and kitchen on ground floor. Second floor had gym, library, costume room, map room and poison lab.

Third floor was a cult shrine where the killers initiated new members. 120 daggers with past member names on them were stuck in a wooden beam. A plaque showing members of the brotherhood going back 200 years was on display. The top door was trapped and Olga the orc took several xbow hits knocking her out.  Top floor was a bedroom of cult leader with a cage of four women next to four poster bed. Party freed them and Alucard convinced youngest a tavern keeper to marry him.

Ladies pointed out secret door with sliding pole so Alucard slid down into a spike foot trap. Bashed open door and master stabbed him by surprise. Fighting with tight space with master he managed to kill master who exploded on death due to a potion he drank. Got down to 4 HP. Basement had store room with a fortune in booze, another was a torture room and below that was a door sealed for 400 years into the ruins the tower built on.

Acula offered to marry the rescued women and one was impressionable enough. He had a city wife, kobold wives in Mazewood and now a wife for his assassin cult tower.  His orc wife knew she could kill all the other so put up with all this as she was number one and had bore the most children. He called his orc henchmen (inlaws) to decorate the tower gates with severed heads of the assasins and the hedges with entrails and brought in his orc kids and baby owlbear. It was like orc Christmas.

Nahme took the other women home but one happy to settle in mazewood with a new life. The two he returned were of good families who paid rewards. The leader assassin had a +2 ring of protection and a +1 sword.

The octopus worked on his grotto and began attending Nahme's church so he could get healing in future. Nahme went to work on shrine. Next time will check out the forbidden door under the brotherhoods dungeon. Chondaru was still in the Hobgoblin halls...

Deathrace and babylon next
