Psychon wierd science fantasy hex design contest for this month here http://elfmaidsandoctopi.blogspot.com.au/2013/11/psychadelic-planetary-romance.html

Got bundle of holding for OSG. Liked Stonehell and adventures of the conqueror king. Vornhiem was main reason I got it but disappointingly not full of drooling sexual depravity as one reviewer promised. He must be better at reading between lines than me. One post on space gods coming soon then I better get some new inspiration. Lost world fantasy ytables would suit my next DnD game.

Ran some new players from school of dramatic arts which was funny. Character gen very fast and streamlined nowadays. I running players when other group too big which i like doing. Had an elf and a fighter which went well. Hunting evil squirrel (tree full of kids bones). Robbing cult tomb then into dungeon to kill wizard Niblix lord of the one eyed blue kobolds. Lots of fun follower flunkies.

Aeons & augauries doing hex maps based on my ideas and gone strange new places i approve of with them. The linked blog has a map in progress and I really wanna see the graphic map key for hexes.  This and previous post worth a look for Psychonian type weird science fantasy cosmos (is there a good plural for cosmos?). I really like this approach and I look fwd to see its development.

Revised Sacred Terrains of Psychon
When i first did this table i had only a d10 colours and added jet and ivory later but always demonstrate not like any modern human - i never added sacred terrains for these colours so Im thinking about two terrains more. Original version here: http://elfmaidsandoctopi.blogspot.com.au/2013/04/planet-psychons-glorious-geography.html

1 Desert
2 Tundra
3 Rock
4 Volcanic
5 Forest
6 Jungle
7 Swamp
8 Deathlands
9 Water
10 Manna
11 Roll 2d10 for two terrains types in conflict here or choose Developed
12 Roll 1d4+1 terrain types in conflict or take Hostile

Developed
1 Automated empty highrise sprawl a few humans fight the machines
2 Sprawling farmland with villages and  farmhouses with some patches of cultivated woodland
3 Sprawling farmland maintained by machines and robots, monoculture crops and herds
4 Ruined ancient suburbia with inhabitants battling roaming gangs of looters
5 Citadel with extensive urban sprawl, surrounding villages, parklands and wilderness
6 Crisscrossed by roads, overpasses, train-lines, sub tunnels, pockets of ruins and wilderness
7 Multiple domes surrounded by ruins or villages, may contain ancients, isolated utopias
8 A large city surrounded by several towns with high population
9 Settler farmers, miners and colonists from elsewhere rapidly grabbing land and territory
10 Civilization living like some past era or humanity unaware of the rest of Psychon

Hostile
1 Crater covered wasteland where objects fall from space often including missiles
2 People living in collective hallucination from psychotronic warfare weapons
3 Severe weird hostile weather and strange clouds change hourly
4 Death fields, necrovirus and undead nano weapons pollute area crawling with monsters
5 Severe dark cold snaps that make life difficult to survive, may be more livable by day
6 Severe hot bright wastelands making survival hard may be more livable by night
7 Plague lands with coloured pools of slime, bacteria and medical waste, highly infectious
8 Always visible auroras affect technology, magic, psionics and even mental activity
9  Sprawling garbage of ancients including fields of burning tires, rusting scrap and crap
10 Rainbow coloured mounds of chemicals often toxic and dangerous with poison
fog clouds

Both of thee types considered rare compared to hexes with multiple terrain types

Developed is basically wilderness in decline versus civilization and settlement. A good location to try out some culture from some other game product. Magical 1920s sprawl with bugbear bootleggers, brave new world civilization or a typical fantasy DnD world or something else. Tend to be wary of outsiders. Good places for players to visit then launch an invasion or disaster on them.

Hostile resemble uninhabited planets rather than typical psychon. Populations are lower or mostly in subworlds. Some populations come out in occasional safe times or require survival equipment like masks, suit etc.Players could br forced into shelter or subworlds here.

Aliens, Saucer Men and Space Gods of Psychon pt 4

Space gods and Saucer men
To recap what we have done so far is to describe typical UFO encounters, saucer occupants, infiltration and invasion by various species.

Space gods are a bit different. Most evidence of space gods is ancient and interpreted from monuments of ancients, artifacts and supposed evolutionary leaps. Space gods are more aloof and dont zoom around in saucers scaring motorists and eating cow faces or stealing brains.

Spacegod artifacts are more likely to be encountered such as a monolith or crystal skull with psionic puzzles required to activate.

When space gods do visit it is a great event and those who contact them are changed forever.

Space gods may have servitor races, often which they have log abandoned. Many carry out agendas that no longer exist. Robots or androids are fairly common. Prometheans are one good candidate but they are arrogant and seek to exterminate failures and managed to wipe selves out with own bioweapons. Most aliens fear space gods and flee. Space gods are to normal aliens what UFOs are to humans.

Space gods typically come into play differently to plain aliens and UFOs. Usually spacegod artifacts or mysteries are uncovered.and possibly activated sending them a signal. Sometimes a servitor is uncovered and awakened but they are often hostile or uninterested in welfare of primitive animals. Spacegods may send mental communications but these are awesome mindblowing communications which may unhinge fragile minds. Spacegods test people with puzzles, leave around powerful weapons or other tests. Failure can mean failure for all humans not just yourself.

A cleric may wish to worship space gods instead of AI gods. Some say spacegods are yet another cruel hoax of of AI gods but most Psychononians cant be sure. But they do grant spells and may commune with some chosen. Such priests especially deal with other aliens possibly being able to turn aliens instead of undead. The power of the spacegods is recognizable and fearsome to saucer folk.

Spacegods may battle with the old ones or possibly kaiju from time to time but such conflict is sure to be very destructive. Why a spacegod would choose to wrestle a kaiju instead of turning them into a tadpole is a mystery but kaiju have their own priesthood too which might explain something.

Spacegods while judgmental will protect innocent from aliens, undead swarm, kaiju attack, mythos gods, or sometimes even Psychonian AI gods. The AI gods seem to not discuss space gods but they are frequently hostile to other aliens due to ancient earth defense protocols.

Other aliens may pretend to be spacegods but this calls the wrath of the Spacegods. Some servitors using the spacegods name in vain likewise displease them. Rogue spacegods do exist but are usually captured by their peers and imprisoned. Hopefully not under your city or on your planet. Evil spacegods take a hand in controlling their servitor species minions.

Several types of spacegods have been documented. The first are the Celestrions, apearing as collosal titans in space armour which may land on a planet and walk around. They walk through oceans waste deep but can walk on water or hover in the sky. They have abandoned vessels but some of these may still be found. Saucer men with ambition might try to occupy a space god vessel but outcome i usually bad. Statues of them may be found in ancient sites. Their impenetrable kirbonium armour is covered in mysterious symbols but a nuke might bother one if surprised. If they knew it was coming they might just dampen the nuclear reaction with a thought. The other variety are the Starchild. Usually appear as fetal beings in glowing spheres (some say they have seen them with tentacles).  Archons are another type whose fused dead bodies may be found in tombs, temples or crypts but these remnants may awaken if disturbed. They are humanoid but withered with domed heads and large eyes. Archons may grant individuals great power and will take it away if squandered on selfish goals. Their consciousness dwells on other planes and it seems ones on earth came here to find a place to die.

Spacegods when they do have ships are huge structures. Stargates are commonly employed also.

The best use of aliens is to send players to a hex with an invasion by saucer people underway. Spacegods are usually involved when greedy evil wizards seek artifacts, communication with evil spacegods or to meddle with their puzzles left to test the race. Spacegods arrival should be a climax. Artifacts or servitors should be seen first.

Druid returned with the Eldren and their new cat friends from the ship graveyards near ruined catmen city. Found a new ally a rogue emerald skinned assassin with magenta hair and a 6 foot long tongue he could swing from. Was a escaped clone of a distant city guildmaster. Druid had to admit he was only 5 having been decanted by serpent men in a lab.  Found rest of party and healed the morlock and the group planned next action. Debated between killing the caretaker of the subworld apartment complex or try to enter the core of the macrobe infestation and let the Eldren use his elder thing mind stealing medallion to learn their weakness.

So to the subworlds and into the apartments built by humans and colonised by cat folk. Elevator died second level. Saw no life couldn't fix lift. Next lift went one level died. Fixed and then died next level. Next lift made it to penthouse. Caretaker AI boomed threats and three repaired clawed toothed robots drove out into the indoor forested elevator landing. The Druid flattered the AI while the assassin and eldren sneaked past robots into the caretakers suite. Skulked inside and eldren tried to mess up the AI robot controls the assassin crawled in a access hatch inside the mainframe. AI grew alarmed and sent robots into control room but were blocked by hawkman who slew one robot. Druid, his mutant wolf and morlock bashed several from behind. Hawkman leaped over dead robot to kill another and all robots went down fast. While assassin pulled out memory modules making AI dumber, the Eldren messed up controls and druid summoned a bug swarm from his sleeves into the AI. Then he created rain which the AI counted with freon gas which he hoped would kill his defilers. Whole party in gas masks and winter clothes easily finished off AI. Assassin pocketed all the brain modules.

While complex died Druid released fungi spores and party convinced cat folk youth gangs on lower levels to leave the complex. They did reluctantly but the cat village welcomed the youths and praised the heroes. Next party marched into the macrobe infestation zone past drooling mounds, quivering cilia and rugose towers of phlegm. Finally they heard a battle between one of the ancient catmen bronze golems blasting its way through the macrobe land. They followed part way as it was a good distraction and headed for the core. Found a eye macrobe which eldren used his intellect absorbing ring to add its consciousness to his own. Barely resisting its power and the ego of the whole macrobe colony weighing on him he eventually pushed it into place with the poor goblin lad he drained earlier. Now he was aware of the colony, its health, its goals and fears. Party went deeper into the alien landscape.

A great biotower of macrobe flesh with psionic eye macrobes attached, surrounded by ball macrobes and three dread sword macrobes they had heard of. These resembled sea slugs that flew in the air and had force blades on their antenna. Party began shooting javelins and flintlocks at approaching deadly spore spheres. Assassin in his shielded suit sneaked around and started to climb the tower unseen, while the eldren blasted the eyes with sorcerous fire bolts.  Several catfolk companions were paralysed while most of the ball macrobes damaged. Hawk climbed onto the druid while he transformed into his 30 foot ape shape and both were attacked by deadly orbs. Sword macrobes struck hard scaring most of the party and injuring the best warriors. Several scorched eyes used their paralyzing mindbolts but then assasin killed one and the druid ape used his plant killing breath weapon to kill rest. All macrobes and the eldren felt them die and spasmed. All the sword macrobes turned on the assasin who had fallen into a heap of mucous where the tower had rotted from the druids breath. He was knocked out bleeding so druid shrunk to normal to deliver first aid. Macrobes were finished off and the great tower was felled. Party burned it and druid breathed again turning remains to mush. Whole zone quivered and fell to chaos.

Returned to cat village and got cats to attack, destroying a whole sub hex or the horrors with fire. Next morning they had cleaned up to the rivers edge. Heroes went to visit the sorcerer in his pleasure dome convincing him to aid the cause and help unite peoples. He followed party with his best students and they went by wizard and the warrior schools taking the three great masters to the citadel assembly. Party were allowed to speak to council. Eldren convinced them to unite with catmen. Druid got them to give voting rights to the warriors. Hawk convinced them to make him warlord in battle vs macrobes and asked for a fancy hat and badge. Assassin requested they release all prisoners from dungeon to aid in great crusade. He then claimed he should be guildmaster and local gang said get out or die.

So the united people destroyed the macrobes and the last sad tower tried to eject spores but the gods sent a ionized plasma cloud aurora to disintegrate them. All peoples united and equal in a new kingdom and all celebrated the end of the alien swarm. Druid received dream from Gaia that it was time to move. Party went south and crossed a huge wall of ice before a gathering swarm of cyan neathandrals and yeti could get them by riding the druid in his giant ape form.

New land was a warmer jungle of ivory and emerald with creamy white river flowing through. Saw a colossal structure and headed there. Heard chanting and bleating and crept ahead to see scarlet men led in religious service led by jet black goatmen. Party hailed them and goat men hushed their human flock and leader bleated greetings. Explained they should worship mighty Yar Gam who teaches humans how to atone for sin of building stargate. Said the red men would house them in their bunker till Yargam would see them. Told that the gate and the ruined city surrounding it was tabu and guarded by metal demons and the dead red men sinners of past. The gate supposed to take humans to heaven but released hell instead. Party followed the meek red folk to ancient bronze vault doors to their bunker. On way killed some zombies and ghouls. Also heard of the savage grey aliens who lived in trees and attacked men and beasts to chew off faces. Heroes intrigued entered the dank corroded bunker....

I actually told new player to reroll character as was too good. Not seen one that good in 2 years of this character gen system - sorry redo. Came back more manageable with an 8 even. Am I a bastard DM? Most characters have two pluses this had every stat 15-18 - as many pluses as rest of party put together.

Aliens, Saucer Men and Space Gods of Psychon pt 5

Spacegods as depicted in marvel comics as designed by Kirby. He had a real flare for old testament shenanigans and also did the 2001 comic in 70s that looks pretty crazy. Like to see a one volume reprint of that. Space gods are different to aliens because they dont just infiltrate and invade and steal our sexually attractive citizens and kidnap crazy loners. Spacegod leave intriguing clues like artifacts, lost temples and making hidden divergant races of superhumans. They most importantly pass judgement on our kind and our all life on our planet. Some of their actions are mysterious and inexplicable. Others scream truth in our heads even if you tear your eyes out.

Kaiju are great colossal beasts up to 500 foot tall, living mountains of flesh that for some reason fight spacegods or are used by them to cleanse planets or fight wars. Uncertain if they were always on earth slumbering, created by AI gods or ancients or spacegods. For some reason they have been seen wrestling spacegods. Some say they are our natural planetary defences or created to bother spacegods. Possibly they are an older order of being found across universe. Possibly there are several types. Some mythos beings may be classed as kaiju or fight them too. They love to fight and are mostly invulnerable. Often end up embroiled in alien affairs.

Aeons and Augeries did a great alien weapon d100 table here: http://aeonsnaugauries.blogspot.com.au/2013/11/some-of-saucer-men.html

Found funny kids book on aliens new for 50 cents mixed supposed fact UFOs occupants and sf aliens together with no distinction. One supposed encounter with greys with giant pincer hands that didn't seem very good for high tech but suit my savage type of feral greys on psychon.

Yugoslavian monuments make great alien temples for psychon.

Pschon Gamelog: Goatmen of the Charnel Swamp

So party stayed with redmen in their power deficient bunker eating recycled food and hearing of the demonic wannabe goatmens domination. Druid repaired all the gardens and hydroponics and used his rock shaping and tree moving magic to create defences for the tribe. Hawk trained some in spear phalanx while druid taught some to be druidic initiates. Druid told them they are not to blame for ancestors and explained that the goatmen are evil charlatans. Hawk saw a shifty man sneak out via a forgotten tunnel and try to warn goatmen. Hawk nabbed him and dragged back to bunker where druid turned him into a egg laying monster the villagers put in a pit. Apparently the eggs of this endangered beast were alcoholic. Hawk was made a deputy and people warmed to him more even though a beastman.

Eventually goatmen demon knights came with a great goat man Asteroth on a palanquin. They came to collect slaves and tribute and were displeased with news of changes. Druid told them to behave as he was a mighty magician. Asteroth was about to order attack when shadowy goatman mobster whispered something and they backed down. Invited Druid and Hawk back as his arguments about red men requiring punishment for ancestors building stargate were not working anymore. Yar-Gam he promised would answer all.

So Hawk and Druid followed goatmen home and Druid to be a jerk summoned monsters every crossing so giant snapping turtles attacked. Eel swarm and extra turtles attacked anyhow and all up about six goatmen died carrying tribute home. Saw some savage feral grey aliens in trees to. Hawk and Druid put in hut for night and given drugged water. Druid purified it and the made big deal about yummy refreshing water. Morning brought in to meet Yar gam with Asteroth, Belial, 4 elite bodyguards and 20 common goatmen with glaives and demonic sigils painted on their heads. The great goat lords had Orcus like skull maces and Yargam had 3 horns.

Druid and Yargam argued a while and tried to persuade heroes to leave. Goatmen supposed demonic patrons and powers failed to detect as magical. Eventually Hawk just blurted out they were a sham and their faith was a load of crap. Yar-Gam waved his guard to kill them. Druid threw stick to snakes in path and weakened wave of goat men. Hawk speared a mobster adviser and Sir fangsalot the red wolf and Hawk's catgirl killed some injured mooks. Party took a few scratches. The Druid monstered out into his 30ft tall beast form. Hawk and the followers killed a few more and elite guard charged. Druid summoned a storm while snakes slowed goat advance and the others cut down more goatmen. Now worried Yar Gam sent his bloated offsider demon wannabees into battle. Druid now started call lightning and fried the mobster adviser. Party very resilient and most of original guards down. Asteroth blew a horn summoning more guards while lightning struck Yar-am who entered the fray. Hawk and catgirl fought the 4 elite guard and Belial got a good blow on Hawk.

As more goatmen came upstairs snakes slowed them and Druid shaped stone as clay with his giant hands collapsing the stairwell entrance and trapping goatmen outside. Hawk badly wounded Belial and held the elites in check. Druid came to melee and cast his gorgon breathe on bosses and temporarily stoned Asteroth. Heroes downed the elites and Belial but hawk fell. His catgirl leaped  on him to stop his bleeding and druid finished Yar-Gam with a stomp. Elite wounded guard fled and snakes and lightning ceased. Before Asteroth was unstoned the Druid with his stoneshape spell removed Asteroths organs over several rounds. Asteroth turned back to flesh and was surprised to see his beating heat and intestines spilled on floor then died. Hawk saved and conscious while the Druid in human form as better to do first aid. Opened a door in the temple dome with shape stone and showed the unconscious leader Yar-Gam to the crestfalled goatmen horde. Hawk cut off Yar-Gams head and kicked his corpse down stairs. Goatmen flee, their sham religion destroyed.

Back with red men in bunker celebrating and Druid did his best to bless maidens with his meat scepter of the goddess. All partied all night. In morning goatman mob sent single envoy offering Druid dominion of bunker and a bag of platinum. He explained he didnt own anybody and we all belong to goddess and the planet. Envoy made it clear the mob tolerated Yar Gam and offered Druid  similar arrangement which he rejected. Finally envoy said to visit mob boss anytime in gang mansion, but dont bother dealing with goat commoners.

Party happy to wait then kill the mobsters. After there is the stargate and ruined city to explore.

Mythic Iceland: BRP at its best for upcoming Viking Games

I have spoken of my disapointment of Chaosium of late. Once I would get anything from them till Rogue Mistress (why not do ship from sailor on seas of fate?) and Orient Express (too clive barker, too 80s cheap teen gore, too much mythology). This product lifts the bar and is simply one of their best non cthulhu products i have seen them do. I plan to run a Viking Cthulhu game soon and this will be a start. Warlords of Alexander probably one of best BRP historical settings but fan made and comparable to Iceland in detail. I have always liked the RQ3 box set of Vikings but i think this product superior.

I have whinged about Chaosium font size and layout and professionalism of late too but this product is beautiful. The map is outstanding and fonts are fine. It feels very substantial and good value. Divine magic section is great. Rune magic I dont get yet is intriguing as is the chapter on using for Cthulhu. As a Dark age supplement it is better than the Dark ages book. Art all fine but did see a pixelated graphic as a few cthulhu items have had of late. I would rate very highly as a BRP or as a Cthulhu sourcebook, probably 8.5/10. Probably best historical gamer sourcebook since the history craze of early 90s. More like this please. Makes me wanna get all the roman stuff now and start writing a Babylon book for BRP.

I plan to use with elements of RQ3 vikings, Cthulhu Dark Ages, The Abbey, Caligo Accendum, The Ravenar Sagas, Spirits and Dreams of Viking Age. Will get Mongoose viking book for RQ as a PDF as only one dollar. Have cache of scandanavian studies texts and another DM in my club running champions vikings so will be a very viking new year. My 1490 Darklands game had about 9 players at one point which was pretty popular, hope this works well. Im playing in a vampire dark ages at moment too which im enjoying more than any previous game of the world of darkness.

Zones part 9 - Forbidden City Zone + Some geomorphs

My heroes at 12th level sick of fighting hoards of weaklings want foes with teeth so dinosaurs are the answer. Plan to fly to monster Island and fight through island killing elder races and robbing them. Battling T-rexes and eventually fighting dragons on way to hell.  Here is what happened.

Island has a no scry zone yet they have been scrying on mainland of late. Found chest with scry spy notes (actually was given by strange fellow to bard). Linden the Bard, his Dwarf BaBa, Sorcerers Zorg and Clarissa and Two Viking lords scouted in a flying carpet inspecting ruins and looking for life. Saw dinosaurs and miles of ruins, step pyramids, plazas, roads and more. Squadron of reptile men on Pterodactyls scrambled led by a triceratops man priest.

Clarissa summoned two pterodactyls and the vikings jumped on them and she jumped on one with leader. Linden charmed two birds with a fear song and downed them. Zorg paralyzed priests mount with wand sending another rider to aid him. Swooping and nipping viking's
pterodactyls killed several birds and triceratops priest flame struck zorg and the carpet survived. Priest, his new 'dactl and other rider all killed by vikings fast. Rest fled. Party went to look for priest corpse as he had a fancy rod.

Found priest being eaten by plant and managed to kill it and get body. Rod casts a  communication spell. Sent message to home base. Saw a gold altar covered in peeled sub human skulls. Poked with a stick and checked for traps. Giant maggot bit stave and crawled towards viking holding it. Burning hands on the lot. Went to scrape off gold and resisted curse.

Found temple and found 12 tonne stone block trap in entrance that had recently been repaired. Flew in on carpet and found half flat thief corpse. Had an Idol in gold bag and a whip. In central chamber was a altar and depictions of a feathered blind hydra god eating people and a sealed pit. Opened lid and the monster heads poured out. All the flunkies fled and set off pit trap. While none got crushed they trapped party inside with monster. Zorg fireballed in pit while warriors cut heads off. Creature had grown to fit square pit and amongst its body folds were a dozen gold idols. Teleported outside with magic staff of Zorg's. Met worried flunkies and a T-rex charged from jungle but warrior heavy guys creamed it. I'm liking my warrior class mods - wizards looking on with more respect.

Went back to beach and where planned to land rest of party only 20 minute row from exile Island by viking longboat. Overlooking harbour on cliffs where 3 step temples. Ship landed with more vikings, Sneaky Pete, Bambi the rogue and Zorgs bodyguard, Gary. Went up to temple and a beautiful maiden staggered out with whip marks crying for help. Linden the bard and Sneaky Pete stabbed her to vikings surprise and threw her corpse down the stairs.

"It is ok", zaid Zorg,
"I sense she is evil".

Her body morphed into a doppelganger and vikings impressed. Party marched in when a great chain net fell. All but Bambi escaped to be swarmed by a nearly a hundred kobolds. Many took a few hammer and hatchet blows but Bambi also the least armoured was dog piled and took over 30 damage. Vikings slaughtered a swathe through them freeing Bambi while Linden charmed a gang and made them form a wall. Other warriors mopped up the hostiles. Found a pit with a hook horror being worshiped. Threw him so much dead kobold it was sick and sat down depressed on pile of kobold dead and 40 000 coppers. Party considered lining boat in copper. Blood flowed down the temple stairs like the good old days.

Sent charmed kobolds to work building cages and put hook horror in one to sell back home. Next temple had a shack on the front from a stranded pirate but inside a group of mongrel men were chanting and ripping out heart of one their kin and blessing cult with blood sprinkles. Zorg sent in a fireball with his Law granted power of max damage once a day. Two survivors, rest were ash shadows. They bowed down in worship and got thrown into bamboo cages by vikings. In the pit was giant frog with metal plates, bracelets and masks in copper and gold. Vikings jumped in and killed it.

Next temple inhabited by savage pierced tribals with Aztec like weapons. Party poured in and killed them. Linden suggested the bodyguards kill their own priest. Found gold idol with some kind of remote viewing link for a distant observer. Pulled it out and wall collapsed revealing ancient vampire bat goddess and a human skin book describing her rites. In god pit was one of her sons. A huge vampire bat so bloated he was stuck in the pit with just his head visible. Threw him his cult corpses and he screamed for more. Vikings and Gary the warrior and BaBa finished it off finding gold statues in its furry flab folds.

Party satisfied and set up base with temples and dragged boat up on hill. Plan to develop whinch to drop boat over cliff and build a fort. Wow this new world pillaging is a cakewalk they thought but at least its novel. Of course the reptilians are aware of all of this and leaked that book of clues to the party. Lindens bard school was one of their temples and he wears the crown of their naga goddess. Zorg discovered 350 pounds of bat godling dung was a narcotic. He convinced his man Gary to try (who eats anything) and he had fevered visions of climbing the bloody step pyramid of the screaming vampire bat goddess in the abyss. Not sure who will want to buy this but Zorg had all collected.

Party rest in new digs after kobolds licked clean.

Monster Island Zone

A lost world covered in primordial jungles, tar pits and volcanoes. In fact it is the crater where Tiamat left this plane through a super-volcano. Where dinosaurs guard prehuman and alien ruins. These lost prehuman races ruled before human kind and enslaved them as cattle. 11,000 years ago Humans rebelled in Shadel Port and the lost evil races fell. Then the necromancers ruled a thousand years using only stone, clay and muscle. After the evil shadow years started the rule of the living free men of the world. But on monster island men never rebelled. Humans once former cattle live as cannibalistic scarified savages in the crater remains of the monster empire, along with all the other survivors. The lost races held on living among giant monsters and killer plants and natural hazards here. In the center is a volcano that dragon kind emerged from. It leads to hell where Tiamat lies in the fiery pits of Avernus spawning dragons to ravage the world. On the snowy peaks around the volcanoes are the remnants of great behemoth mammals from the early glacial dawn age. The island is surrounded by titanic sea monsters.

Have updated side bars and streamlined the pages and links and added a Psychon page.

Have been running some new 1st level dungeon parties for drop in gamers and when the dragonlance 2nd ed game too full. Ive enjoyed being a nuetral character preaching nuetrality (blow with the wind, follow the strongest change sides if they break). Nick and Ming have enjoyed playing these games so much we have kept playing. So far the party began as a warrior from Wolfhead Lodge township as a woodcutter who has teamed up with his elf friend. Both Dissatisfied they have set off for adventure.

Warrior is a axe expert with a man at arms friend named Red (after his shirt colour) and lamp holding boy. Elf has druidic spells, a pet eagle and a pocket gargoyle familiar. Went asking into mountains where monsters dwell and into found waggon and dead bodies. Tracked Hobgoblins to campsite waited till night.Elf climbed a tree and waited for drinking goblins to have bathroom breaks. Several went wrong direction but eventually the warrior spit a skull open of a hobgoblin. Another came looking for him and he died by axe bite too. Then he was spotted so he charged. The Elf rained down arrows killing the leaders while the warrior, men at arms and gargoyle killed them except one. Asked where stolen goods going and they described that they had an evil black hairm master who lived in a tree and commanded them to black mail villagers for goods. It was there idea to kill all the men delivering the goods. Pile of backpacks filled with ransomed iron rations.

Took goblin into swamp with hobgoblin guide to patch of trees with stench of the dead. Demanded beast come out till woodsman threw burning oil into tree. The black beast was a giant evil squirrel with literacy enough to write ransom some notes. The party battled and captured him and found trees hollow and filled with bones. Including village children.

Back to villagers and told them sad story. Let them kill squirrel and hobgoblin and skinned the squirrel for a cape. Stayed with villagers and given some of their rations packs (their goods they make for Barron's men). Grandpa said when he was young him and friends went and looted a tomb and hid them under a log but a giant toad took the land and grandpa goes once a year for 50 years to see if toad dead yet. Party thought this sounded good. With elf and his familiars avoided many hazards toll found the toad and battled it. Grandpa gave a few good blows and warrior was swallowed but they killed it in time and freed him.

Found chest of silver and grandpa pointed to where tomb was. Thought they should look at and found barrow of skeletons they easily smashed. Found cult paraphernalia and demonic looking candelabra. Slept in barrow and healed as much as possible. Elf a good healer so was handy. Found secret door and went down. Well with a tentacle kept spooking them when backs turned do left Red with hi spear to watch it. Party opened vault door and skeletons with ghoul master charged. Skeletons easy but ghoul almost finished them, Red dropped some rocks on tentacle horror. Opened a sealed room with an Imp which was a terrible battle they just won. Freed a brownie who now follows them as a cat or invisibly. Party recovered and found some more loot and climbed out.

Got improved armour for gang and plate for warrior, earning title of slowest party yet. Got some fake potions of healing too. Found guy running to town and robbed him and somehow hopped potions still real.

Went to ask about proper dungeon and grandpa sent to the dungeon filled lands south of Shadel Port. Party marched and bid Grandpa goodbye as he was a wise tough old fellow. Saw the horrible city and neat fields of humourless yeomen on way.  On way up mountain met some knights who snubbed them. They asked if any knights brave enough to join them and they aid begone or we will beat you. A squire followed them and asked to join to escape cruel master. Higher up met dwarfs and purchased a cheap copper spear+1 for Red. A young Dwarf volunteered to join them.

Found ruined trash heap in quarry and found hidden entrance to the labyrinth of RimZim the wizard and his blue skinned one eyed troglodyte tribe. Was a library where religious pilgrims hid their books many generations ago.

Accidentally wandered into the sleeping shift of the sweatshops, workhouses and labourers barracks. Questioned some kobolds and questioned where the Wizard is. Told fastest way through the sacred fungi gardens and north. Followed directions from factory are and into a huge chamber with towering fungus, hillocks with kobold shrines and black pools. Crept around edge and an giant scorpion attacked which the Dwarf took the brunt of the poison deliberately so party killed it mostly  unscathed. Scared shitless about scorpions they went west and found huge dungeon chamber with huge cages and rooms surrounding outside. Attacked by giant bats but defeated. Rescued a grateful thief girl sold by own gang to kobolds, a cheese makers daughter kidnapped from her bath and some filthy pox marked pilgrims. Freed them and struggled with some doors embarrassingly but robbed a kobold shrine and decided to flee the south. Exited through a huge building site the kobolds were building a new section but managed to get through to outside unseen. Went to Greenwood village and returned the cheesemakers daughter and were rewarded in cheese and food and drink in inn. This village welcomed them warmly and offered them a rent free shack. Village old adventurers had made it big and now ran some kind of kingdom and a media empire of bards and messenger birds. Showed them parties burned brewery that a witch burned down. Party accepted the shack and hired tow local lads, one a good bowman. Another boy named Billy with a pack goat. Party trained a while and Warrior and Elf second level. Got two fierce wolfhounds.

Marched to city and recruited a fabled yeoman lad with longbow and greatsword. to and had usual wait to get a 48 our passport. Asked a guard where to sell loot and got some poor directions to Fishhead lane (or murderers row to locals). Gang hassled them but warrior punched through a wall with his gauntlet and they apologised and fled.

Sold goods at a not so good price then went to recruit a cleric. Maddy the thief now the Elf's follower asked if they could punish her old gang. Were heckled by drunken adventurers and protitues on way and found a priest at a shrine where a saint had vomited in an alley. Now pilgrims stopped here and li a cigarette fo the saints shrine. The caretaker said he had finished his duties here and could join them. Found gang headquarters and sneakiest entered by the crumbling abandoned third floor while armoured guys below at door. As they one by one crossed weak floor, Red fell through onto sleeping thieves who began stabbing him. Squire jumped down and slipped and elf and two archers fired down the hole. Outside party began ramming the doors. Second floor emptied as ground floor broken into and another floor of scum emptied before one surrounded. Into the basement killed more then into secret old sewer builders housing to finish the gang. Warrior got back stabbed by gang leader who then fled into sewers via escape hatch. Gang of over twenty killed. Took loot and found a bomb which they lit the fuse and ran. Outside heard bang, roof partly collapsed and porch sunk a bit.

Left city and back to the dungeon. Took different route and met some pilgrims in black robes who offered to join them. Party agreed and found a ravine with a slippery log to cross. When most over a pilgrim ran out and pushed dwarf off log and rest attacked party. On other side only elf had shoot into melee skills and saved poor archer lad from pilgrim. One on log got hit with brownie sleep arrow and fell to his death. Dwarf fell into bush and only a bit hurt and trapped. Warrior in plate resisted the pilgrims and grabbed one. Both men wrestled on cliff edges while archers too careful aim and killed pilgrims with arrows. Was planning to throw pilgrim into precipice but instead they captured him.

"Why did you do that?"
"Ours is the god of treachery, this is how we show our devotions on pilgrimage"

Arrived at dungeon with large band and the elf and dwarf went in to scout with brownie. Searched building area and hassled by gremlins trying to pick pockets. Dwarf splatted one and they attacked but guys drove off. Brownie was unhappy about something else.

Saw an orc with a woman in distance who pushed her into quarry pit and dived on top of her gagging her. Goodguys went to edge of pit and saw them hiding in mud. Dwarf tumbled down embarrassingly and brownie and elf managed to get panicked orc. Girl told she was part of a waggon load of dancing girls and orc gaol keeper hadtaken her for himself when they were meant for the wizard who was taking the one by one.

Got rest of party and moved into building site heading for prison. A rustmonster chased them all back out of dungeon and warrior wasted two good axes slowing it. Once outside set his wolfhounds on it. Eagle and gargoyle and goat joined in and beast fled.

Went back in saw other adventurers who ran but they caught the chain wearing leader, a beadle from Shadel Port off duty looking for bounties and extra loot. Convincd him to stay with them rather than his gutless chums.

In the prison area and found 12 dancers one with 17 charisma, an old lady story teller and a uppity halfling bitch who criticized everything they did. Party unimpressed by her but started squabbling if to flee with rescued people of get Rimzim. Agreed to look in some doors first as last time they had no lockpicks and now Maddy the thief and the dwarf skilled with locks. Found some medical supplies and tools. And then found room strewn with dead bodies and table with a delicious roast beef haunch. Halfling avoided the trigger for the trap and grabbed the roast and ate a few bits of pumpkin in front of them. While Warrior, elf, priest and Maddy searched some VIP cells sleeping chambers rest of party ate delicious roast served by halfling.

Gargoyle came in to report something wrong while searchers looking at wanted poster of Warrior and Elf put out by RimZin. Elf looked out to see everybody else passing out mostly from something. Also saw ork on warg. Dwarf and concious dog and Warrior chased warg who kept out of range shooting them and leading on a chase. Meanwhile Maddy and halfling fighting. Maddy went down and squire followed till priest finally finished  the treacherous halfling maid. Beadle wants to take her to secret police as he is sure she is wanted. Elf finaly shot the orc and the warg fled and party stopped to heal wounded. Party over 20 people with 2/3 unconscious. Locked selves in room and heard searchers go wrong way. Party slept off drugs and fled dungeon, swearing to return and kill RimZin the wizard next time.

Returned home and set up house with dancing girls. They preferred to marry party bachelors than be dancing girls in worlds worst city. The most beautiful took fancy to elf. He let her hang around him to protect her. Didn't have heart to tell her elves spend two years holding hands before kissing and he didnt fancy humans.  She would die of old age before getting to first base. Beadle gave them 40gp and thank you note from secret police for halfling bitch.

Guys say next time the will fight way to wizard no matter what and wont be distracted by prisoners or his minions or monsters again.

This all improved from tables and geomorphs. No long term plans but hopefully will get RimZim and get to 3rd level.

Amorphous Monsters of the Manuals

$

Amorphous was meant to be low forms of life but some DnD ones intelligent or psionic while others dumb as plants. Comparing monsters stats like INT brought up some interesting issues. Some slimes immune to spells, some resist charm, paralyses and other spells possibly as they have no brains or nervous systems. Possibly like undead these critters need common spell resistance like undead.

Have stuck to mostly as is for now. I will do the open source and new content stuff later. Should include things l can use in Psychon or SF too. Interesting this first class was full of critters that kill you. More like traps. Asphyxiate in rounds, paralyse in your sleep and kill you, rot away your flesh and just kill you don't damage like flame breath, acid blood, spells and everything else in game. Monsters with different destroy armour rates. Monsters with own micro rules to kill you all different. Gygax could be a bastard. Trapper and lurker above could have been same thing really. A wall hanging one could fake rock or clever ones could be works of art like tapestries. Both similar attack but different asphyxiation rates and Trapper has wierd damage system that it cant hurt high AC characters with damage.

Possible standardise spells don't effect zero intelligence creatures - like paralyses and psychological attacks. I upped INT of a lurker to 1 as it was described as having some animal like cunning and could be charmed or made to fear and was meant to be a kind of manta ray thing. Ive decided it is more of a evolved moronic trapper.

Have ummed and ahhhed if worms and slugs belong here or open arthropods to all invertebrates. Considered putting fungi here too. I envision class as macrocellular life or colonies like coral or man o war rather than individuals. Abilities are implied to be biological rather than magical one important distinction.

Possibly standardise asphyxiation attacks, and corrode armour attacks. Also could use for a spell or item if standardised.

Have done Ad&D Monster Manual covering section one will start on FF and MM2. Then add some more of my own. Fill in some holes existing. Use wikipedia descriptions more. Revert some things like Stirges (owls), Chimera, Salamander, Kobold to more mythic versions but keep dnd ones as other variants or different things. AdnD salamanders are fire demons to me.

Will see what other interesting features come from doing this.

d100 Saucy Pamphlets of Shadel Port

Shadel Port has a thriving woodblock printing and hand copied and coloured pamphlets and books. While the city has a thriving literate population greater than most lands, many pamphlets are highly illustrated so even the illiterate can follow them. Some even have voice balloons and sequential images like old English children papers or comics. Other cities on the mainland restrict printing and ban broadsheets and pages from Shadel Port as scandalous rabble rousing filth. Popular prints are often lowbrow and publicly frowned on but everybody reads them or looks at pictures in a tavern or brothel waiting room. Secondhand stained ones available -d50% price.

Political tracts that could get you executed not included here but include work criticizing the secret police or Barron. Having one could be a death sentance and you might get one by accident or recieve one without realizing. Secret police of Barron dont care if you dont know how you got it. They plant them on people all the time.

Unsavoury subjects are common. Many detail exploits of executed criminals, often sold near chopping blocks and hangmans scaffolds near your local shops. Sex, crime, scandals, strange lovemaking and beauty tips and many more topics. Ones below are some of the more popular ones. Ones about the party may appear from time to time, unauthorized of course.

I found book of stuff from 1500s Germany - best tale: kids practice butcher on younger brother killing him, hide from mom in oven, mom cooks them by accident jumps in well, dad comes home and hangs self when sees family dead. Cities that printed them ended up being embarrassed and destroyed tabloids. Cities where banned tabloids survived in stashes of collectors. Next time im in my old uni library will copy some as not on the net.

Psychon Log: Black Lab of the Zombie Gods

$

I learned some lessons from this. Killing zombies is pretty boring.

Party with some extra members.

Druid and mutant wolf
Hawkman with cat girl
Eldren sorcerer with catfolk couple
Rogue assassin
Priest of Phoenix the creator

Heroes helped the locals and deemed the stargate most urgent things to deal with and leave the mob and now independant redmen to their own devices. On a plateau mad by gods that keep it isolated. Surrounded by labs and science facilities and crawling with undead and other creatures. Climbed up side cliffs to get in to be attacked by creeping vines. Killed vines and tried bare rock face. Druid took some seeds. Then turned into huge ape form and caste a spell to grow wings. Flew party up and over the ruin. Saw an intact metal shuttered black office building with best landing. Is a black lab for Gentech Corp who help suppress bio agents loosed fairly often and also steal samples of alien contaminants for own research from government stargate.

Inside found biosuited lab techs and priest blasted many with his dead slaying powers. He also spoke to some. Party killed the undead corporate board, the branch managers, their receptionists and some secbots. On ground floor the AI was ordering them to surrender. The Druid told his chums he had experience with such threats from petty AI gods.

"I am only 5 years old you cant touch me"

He was grown by lizard men in a bottle only 5 years ago so lie detector knew he meant it.

AI was going to call cops and instead sent Psychbots from mental hospital which party had big fight with in doorways. Children Services robots offline trying to seize mutant children from the wastes. Finally got into the AI room and Quatro began to be friendly and helpful. Questioned about other possible locations. Got into underground carpark and found tunnels. Went into hospital underground carpark and found full of bodybags. Which of course awakened.  Rogue got in ambulance and put in riotmode auto pilot and drove in circles around 3 floors running down about 30 zombies. Found lots of programmable nanobots and took to Quatro who turned into antizombification nanites. They stop undead making alien necrovirus.

I got a bit poopy here and greyed out and other player took over a bit. From days of DMing or lack of sleep. Player took over and got everyone to do a vampires dark age humans characters for us to start for new game in club. I rested up a bit and felt better so ran some solo stuff for an hour for thief player while he was waiting for a train. He explored basement and killed a few looters including tailing a Dominator Mutant Psion with slave goatman and redman. Killed them all but tricky and some bad luck. Helped a feeble ancient chased by a greaser roosterman in leather with a carbine who hates all humans. Killed him too in a sword fight. Helped ancient man in bubble helm suit to take wife's pod to join rest of party for next session.Woman is sick and only modern Psychonian magic might saver her. Then she can get to mutate like everybody else and have her memory erased by the gods.

On one note whole party now have smartphones in a network. Some talk of using to call gods. Who has the gods personal phone numbers?

Next game will have to dissuade more from exploring everything and killing every zombie. Never in much danger. I plan on setting up miniatures and terrain for playing party dash to the stargate and observatory through zombies and ghouls. Undecided where gate goes (Carcosa?). Apparently necromancers come from other lands to the Charnel corpse filled swamps to raise undead armies. Some have entered the stargate never to return. Druid has been twanging his necro-guitar of late and another character now wants to play the drums. I'm liking this development.

One player asked about what should party be doing more of?  As gold pretty useless, as is land holdings, and social status all not important what needs doing. Probably like old Dr Who where a failed utopia needs saving. Fixing hexes local problems and moving on is how you get to level up. Also coming to deal with gods more for long term benefits. They provide best shot at getting a base of some kind in a orbital they can use to explore the planet. Gods use heroes to clean up messes. If they fail they terraform the hexes with people still in them. I can see them being like heralds of Galactus. Land in hex with a countdown to save from gods wrath. I also considered that Psychon is actually inside a Dysons Sphere but Im not sold on this or telling players but it could be an alt version idea that someone might run with.

New players helping to break my house rules. I'm gonna have a EMO rules consult day with some players soon. To help iron out rules and develop the next version for new year of play. More mid level players and casters now finding some new bugs. In my regular DnD game I agreed with players flame strike would be now be a d4 per level damage. Then hit the party with 4 in next battle. That gamelog coming soon.

My new adventures in Dragonlance

Playing Dragonlance 2nd Ed (Sadly I had best time in ages because I am a nuetral jerk)
I am playing a Lady Druid/Wizard ogre in Krynn game. I am being a super jerk preaching neutrality. Tell villagers to go with the flow and serve strongest master then turn on them and change sides if they grow weak.

"Stop in the name of neutrality!" I yell lot.
"Prepare to die in the name of true neutral!"
"We come in the name of neutrality"
"I feel an alignment in the great neutral presence"
"I sense an outer planes disturbance in the great balance"
"Yes this plan to avoid conflict accords with deep neutrality"
"My neutral wrath floweth over into my wizardry foe!"
"Be ye good or evil doers you are in our way and you have our friend, surrender!"

When paladin told foes we battle evil I added "and good" all the time.
I was disappointed I couldn't be a LG jerk but this has turned out better.

Because I'm on Krynn I make a point to get a torrid crush on someone every session in hopes of finding true love. Holding out for meeting a dragon in human form to be my one true love. Then I can Write the unauthorized Krynn novel the world has been waiting for. It will be hard as I dont have panache for sexual cruelty, humiliation and rituals of subordination and domination that proper romance writers do but I guess i could learn or just steal ideas from Archie comics.

I realized even though I had first bunch of 2nd ed stuff was when I quit DnD for about 20 years, It was Temple of elemental evil PC game and new players wanting me to intro them to the game that I got back into it. So I get surprised still by rules differences. Im loving Phantasmal force as a 1st level spell. I cast only one or two or three tops spells in a battle but I hold back all the dumbest mooks and monsters quite often with burning fire wolf ghosts just out of reach. Andz runs a fairly fast 2nd Ed with mods from my game a bit. Flexible and puts fun first. Let me create proto ogre druid/wizard no problem. I like to morph slowly into form of those around me, shifting height, ear points, skin colour and more. Just to assimilate. Good practice for my changeling race I'm working on.  I keep talking like I know nothing since the cataclysm. Then my first Items: Coat of blending and cloak of protection+2. I am envious of wizard with a wand though.

Junkmail is an underrated field in fantasy RPG and there is plenty of prime advertising space in many fantasy settings. This blog is to change that.

In Shadel Port paper is the cheapest on Free Erth so the advances in printing and technology are superior to all the Third Empire and the Dragon Empire of the far East. Shadel Port is a fascist dictatorship with mutant ghettos, secret police, hidden dungeons and tunnels, and worse. But it has free press as long as Barron not mocked or disrespected. That is torture or death if judge feels mercy. Free to print wild slander, personal secrets of your enemies, advertising for your show or cult, whatever. A foriegn Noble remarked the people of Shadel Port have the most shit free bums in the world for the kindly waifs who give them out paper in the street. others think they are collectable and virtually any worth a copper or even a silver in other lands. Some sailors collect and sell them on side and they even have become valued at least a copper piece. Some are stained or unpopular and prices may vary tavern to tavern. Some abandon them in latrines, carriages, hotels and restaurant tables. Locals may refuse to accept "paper junk money".

Nightly lads roam the streets to paste the town. They avoid the law who beat and imprison them. Some posters are handed out as smaller flyers or even sold as artworks, novelties or even official religious blessing posters with motivational slogans of the prophets such as: "Hang in there Kobold". Flyers are distributed by children who when older become pasters  Many practice graffiti on the side for fun, art,  revenge, dissent or insanity. Some get recruited by galleries, guilds, secret police, gangs, cults and more. They are local heroes in places where gangs victims are most broke and out of control. Gangs control popular walls and districts for own or tax paying authorised pasters. Outsiders may be ignorant about this code. Nobody covers Barron's edicts within a month (not much as they have use by date stamps on them).

The Barron is Lawful Evil and some say in one of his dungeons is an entrance to the Nine Hells. They say that about the super volcano that is Monster Island goes to Tiamat's Volcano in Hell. Hmmmm. He has besides many freedoms and high literacy the only nation with conscription of commoners. Other nations fear and joke about this. Common men well fed with clothes and weapons have won every battle agains warrior aristocrats and barbarian nobility. Scum from across the world come to Shadel Port, most end up in a slum, laves or dead  if they have little labour. Undead and goblinoid labour are hard to compete with for weak men. The masked secret police serve him directly and are fanatics. Many agents are watched by magical scrying devices or guardian spirits. Some of the leaders of this force are aid to be part devil.

Psychon Log: Carcosa and Beyond

After manufacturing zombie virus cures and fighting Psychobots, party sent scouts ahead to the stargate mission control. hawk held onto the Druid while he leaped over the hordes of undead and onto the building roof. Also carried along where their followers. Friendly androids invited them inside to the command centre. Their priestess (senior programmer) told them Pheonix had sent them here to aid them. Through the gate some force had held a wormhole open and the AI gods deemed this had to stop. The mission: enter the stargate and stop the force inside then return so gods could close forever. Druid and Hawkman agreed to have a look and the goddess would send their friends through later.

So both passed through and fell onto a blasted grey dirt of the alien world Carcosa. The dread lake of Hali stretched out beyond with the silhouette of the evil city of Carcosa in the fog shrouded horizon.

"Lets  not go there" uttered Morataskas the druid
"Agreed" said Hawk"

So they guys check their phones to see if signal to Psychon link working as the jaunt seemed to feel off and that 30 foot drop was a problem.

'Everything here tastes worse than crap said Filgrey of the Hawkmen.

The greenskinned piebald haired rainbow punk druid agreed. Saw some ruins and moved in. Three incredibly ancient shambling round mound structures mostly buried in millions of years of alluvial deposits. As they got closer they saw the watcher. Sitting their for thousands of years or longer, staring at the black city of horror on the lake. The horrible spherical eyed darkspawn was spherical, a single sad lonely eye, impossibly sad and ancient gazed at them. Then it hopped off, suddenly galloping on its goatlegs, squealing and waving its mindless lamprey tentacles. The lads shot into action with the hawk leaping into battle running a spear through its pupil. The rainbow druid master, the catgirl and the 9 foot long red wolf companions all dived in and besides a few futile blows killed the elder beast. He blasted them with psionic screams but they shrugged it off and bashed him. They hacked its sad sagging corpse and kicked it down the slope of grey shale. The most maddening thing about the beast was its colour. A colour never seen on Psychon, even before the apocalypse. They had no word for it and saw the beast pathetically roll away.

Summoned a Fishman with the magical tablet from the shoggoth pits of the jewelled deserts and a savage polypous white, more spiny and larger than normal deepone came. He explained about the god Hasturs palace and the king in yellow and the formless horror faced tentacle spacegods who dwelled in the lake. Told them A god here was was holding open gate. hastur was just freeloading from this but was not the cause. He was taking the necromancers and undead armies who had come from Psychon for protoplasm and especially nanite altered nuerological material. The necromancers would wander the city as screaming madmen lost in time forever. Must find black magician and banish the god. He didnt know who though. He escorted them in swamp towards a jade pyramid and ruins where they found a elder thing in the swaamp with psionic choking powers. Was another demented ancient horror in the lifeless grey rubbly bog.

In ruins lived Jedex a bone man with transparent flesh. Luckily the Druid spoke Cthonic and the two spoke. He had lost his adventurer friends inside days ago. His party insisted on entering so he waited on guard. Joined party and remarked some races he had never seen. Learnt how men on Carcosa were bread to be cattle for the god, vessels for tasty soul snacks gods would devour like whales eating plankton in the sea. The serpent men just bread men to be sacrifices and spell components. The Druid admitted the serpent men grew him but 5 years ago

So went north and met white men villagers. Provided them with proper Psychon food like goblin fingers as sweet as caramel and honey flavoured ogre fat. Natives agreed a land where everyone is delicious and gods don't just eat you sounded great. Met their sorcerer leader who didnt know but said brown men had a leader who killed old wizard and has his books still. Perhaps that's what party wanted could be there he offered. Party thought worth a shot and headed that way. Druid now sure spell recovery here intermittent through the gate.

Rest of party came, tumbling out odf the sky during one such link up session.

A new lilac skinned warrior man with antenna, and a monkey tail only 4 foot high. He carried a sword and a composite bow. A 9 foot tall wolfman naked and hairless with green skin, horns and antlers carrying an axe and javelin. The cleric of Pheonix came next with assassin. Then came the Morlock tastemaster and his savage no1 wife. He was now armed to the teeth with guns and could start a revolution back home now in the subworld of VValmar.

The party chatted and swapped stories and magic loot that Pheonix randomly beamed them from long dead adventurers she had scanned. Druid ended up with flaming chain. Morlock got his first Magic Pistol. Priest got a plantmetal xbow that grows arrows. Some got ballistic vests. Morlock got laser shield - a 10 shot 2d6+2 laser pistol built into anti laser retro reflec riot shield with armoured visor slot. Also recharges laser shot daily in the sun.

Assasin found a biopet in a pod and opened it as instructed. Pet hatched and made psionic link. Biological robot senses poison or unhygenic food, warns child to check with mum or dad if risk of danger and can be guided by telepathy and link can provide visual detail. Exited by his fluffy gizmo he made makup from mud and tried to infiltrate brown men. They took him to lord who imprisoned him. Then sent out 100 warriors to search for strangers in hex.

Party saw coming and Druid built a stone wall. Morlock got spare guns and crossbows rigged as traps. Then got a tear gas grenade trap and fire pit trap ready with god granted high octane grog. Sent 40 men forward and party fired. Traps went off and 30% never got through tear gas. Meanwhile the wall of flame blocked retreat and rainbow druid appeared.

Surrender or Die as he morphed into a 30 foot punk ape.

He battled their great hero while heroes killed wave after wave on men till 40 dead. By this time heroes jumped over wall and charged through gas with masks on and counter charged mob while druid stomped on villainous brown warlord. Druid kept him alive despite ill wounds the warrior dealt him. He picked up a brownman mook and tore off his head, then turned his blood into a healing potion with a spell (I normally use water but too cool an idea to not use). Last 20 surrendered. Barged into town killing all who stopped them and looted the sorcerers books. With aid of crystal wizard of white men found ritual to banish Doalath then sent party to castle of skull men.

So on to get secret of banishing Doalath lord of interspace. Went to Tsathogua mountains found alien babies that crawled from a corpse. Spells only recovered intermittently.

Charged castle of skull men and met their envoy who they chopped int bits. The retaliated with a  horde of spawn down mountain but party climbed on druid in giant form and he jumped over horde then hopped up hill onto top of barbican gate house. Assassin swung on his 6 foot tongue to window and peeked in. Pulled lever to release gate with tongue and the Druid tore out chains allowing gate to re open with his mighty ape paws. Wolf and hawk beastman charged down wall killing all men in path. Archer hosed down the wizard with arrows, along with a few followers. Morlock took a tower and the lilac warrior sho wizard dead. Chaos broke out as morale finally snapped when druid killed a yellow tentacle spawn with his fist. Another spawn killed by warriors and any wearing cult robes chased and killed. Most killed but 20 odd surrendered and party put their friend the had met at pyramid in charge of his kinsman so now he wanted to stay on Carcosa. Party hunted and killed remaining spawn locked outside castle. Found cave where Daolath manifest and began ritual to banish him using brown person sacrifice and lead and sulphur powder on a magic altar. Then smashed the call/banish altar. Inside cave where was hazy dimensional warp was now a strange artwork or altar like a incredibly impossible crystal puzzle of rods, cones, cylinders and sheets. Smashed that too. Gods reported coms restored and party could return.

Returned home at gate and taken to control room. 50 megawatt Laser from heaven destroyed gate after wormhole repaired and then lower wattage laser rain hailed down killing undead.

Then sent to Albuquerque spaceport (gammaworld module) that predated the starport. Dropped down into top of tower and found dead machines and were ambushed by sleeths with sonic powers and tech weapons. Managed to kill off then went downstairs after playing with buttons. Found starport concourse and found ancient restaurant. Waiter androids in B&W dress jumpsuits came and too orders. Party got mountain of food but only liquor any good for drinks. Convinced them to accept worthless gold instead of electronic currency or poker chips. Poker chips legal tender by 2063.

After eating food of the gods party wandered about saw baggage but went to west end port where two of three tunnels blocked. Passed interesting space travel company desks and went towards unblocked tunnel where two rad scorpions attacked. Killed them then decided to camp.

Just an experiment and a test. I was fairly easy on them. Also used my psionics rules which I liked. Wanted to compare and contrast settings. The gods are proving to be into intervention through adventurers and use them to make areas safe for them to destroy. Druid swapped plant samples from worlds and he could plant door through them again.

So will be glad to have days off and not running club lots and working less for a bit over xmas. Might play at friends warehouse for a day in session soon. Some extra players soon in wed game as DnD oldschool mania has taken club and we have many older returning gamers. Many computer gamers interested too. Some of the po-mo magic story gamer kids in black seem unimpressed with direction as club changes. Had three tables of oldschool and 4th ed dnd fri night. Viability is a bit of a struggle due to various issues but Ive loved every minute of it.

I just got a tablet and already it has replaced big pile of books. Great for maps. Done one post here using it. Music and video options in hand too.

This a blog on what happens to characters when players away.
http://the-city-of-iron.blogspot.de/2013/11/underworld-lore-dungeon-disappearances.html
Slightly too funny but I like the idea and got me thinking

Big danger of random player sandboxing is that players wanna come back. Ive had same party raid a dungeon 4 times and this taking notes business is kinda like work. So I am contriving this from some discussions with JDJarvis of late in my monster island post:

"If you didn't keep notes of room contents fill the area with lava, ice, greenslime, radiation, toxic gas, huge swarms of nth dimensional pirhana stirges, hardened lava.."

So im blowing  this germ into tables for indoors and outdoors to cover up locations and change contents of an area. On Pychon id just blow stuff up or something but in regular setting i might need some variety and possibly more subtlety. Basic idea to drive players from returning to location or make return to somewhere more interesting. Players may go on instead of flee. Let them but make life tough and are unfamiliar. You might need to make an area more hostile than maps indicate and want to remodel the hex. You might want to use to ad some history to an area or a boring dungeon might need more backstory. You could roll for a complex if left a while for a dungeon event while party away or do this to one of their properties then send in to clean up.

dungeonofsigns.blogspot.com.au

Using a few things off that list to foreshadow one of thee gangs in the dungeon would add extra exitement to those random generic murder holes we call dungeons.
